The Metal Coat may have been added to Pokemon Go way back when Gen 2 was added, but that doesn’t mean you won’t need one now. They’re a Special Evolution Item which can be vital in evolving particular Pokemon. For example, you’ll need one if you want to evolve Onix into a Steelix! Unlike the other Pokemon titles, you don’t need to have your Pokemon holding the item. You just need one in your bag in order to evolve them, essentially.
Pokemon Go Metal Coat – How To Get One
There are two ways you can get your hands on a Metal Coat in Pokemon Go.
Firstly, you can find them at Pokestops. Yes, it’s that simple! You just need to make sure you have enough bag space for the item drops. There is a 1% chance you’ll get a Special Evolutionary Item from a Pokestop until you’ve spun over 250. Then, according to Pokemon Game Info, this will shoot up to 50%!
Secondly, there is a possibility that a Metal Coat will drop when you collect your 7-Day Field Research reward.
Who Can I Use A Metal Coat on?
There are currently only 2 Gen 2 Pokemon you can use a Metal Coat on, but it’s worth noting… You’ll need 50 Candy for each evolution, so be sure to make sure you’re stocked up!
Onix can evolve into Steelix;
And Scyther can evolve into Scizor.
