Its 1997 all over again. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the PS1 style horror game “Alisa” is officially coming to console when the game launches in May 2021. The campaign raised more than the €25,000 stretch goal, which will see the game come to Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Alisa is a PS1 style horror game, complete with tank controls, fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds, in the same vein as games like Resident Evil and Alone In The Dark. The game is being developed be a single person, Casper Croes, who said about the game;
“I’ve been working on personal game projects for many years and never thought this game would become so big and important to me. It started as a simple 3D model of Alisa which grew to a concept and eventually a story followed. And so this game became my main project. This project is like an escape from all the dead-end jobs that I do to earn money to live.”
When discussing the choice of the art style and game design, Casper said;
“The art-style came by coincidence. I didn’t see anybody making ps1-style graphics around the time I made this game concept and I thought it would be a cool idea to mix the classic Resident Evil with the spooky Švankmajer’s Alice.
The gameplay is quite like a classic Resident Evil/Silent Hill/Alone In The Dark type of game. Tank Controls, fixed camera angles, go into “weapon ready/aim” mode and start shooting, collect keys, do all kinds of puzzles, ammo and healing item management and try to survive until the end. But don’t be scared off by the outdated Tank Controls! The full game will include the more “modern” Camera-based directional input.”
The game is scheduled to release in May 2021 on PC via Steam, PS4, Xbox One & Switch. Here is an overview of the game and trailer;
Alisa is a classic late-90s style horror-themed action adventure game set in a fantasy universe inspired on the 1920s. You play as an Elite Royal Agent called Alisa. While she is chasing a wanted criminal, she ends up in an old victorian mansion. She tries to find a way out while being haunted by materialized/mechanized doll-like humanoids. Can you survive the Dollhouse?
