PS5 Useable Storage Reportedly Less Than Xbox Series X

Updated:

With both new consoles on the horizon, new leaks have suggested that the PS5 useable storage isn’t quite what PlayStations fans were hoping for… For one, it’s less than the Xbox Series X by nearly 150GB.

Notable leaker, Okami13, has recently shared two images that appear to confirm reports that the PS5 will only have around 660GB of useable storage on launch. We know that Astro’s Playroom comes pre-loaded onto new PlayStation 5 consoles, but there’s no word as to whether this is included in the reported 660GB storage, or not. It all depends on whether this was installed before or after, essentially.

Unfortunately, the YouTube leak where Okami’s images originate from is gone. So… We can’t know for sure whether this is completely accurate. It’s worth noting that the PlayStation 5 also uses an SSD, not a HDD. However, the figure does fit in the ball-park of other leaks in the past.

PS5 Useable Storage Looks Small In Comparison

Looking to Microsoft’s new consoles, the Xbox Series X reportedly offers around 800GB of useable storage. It remains to be seen how efficiently Sony have made the storage for the PS5, but if they both work out the same this is a huge gap between the competing consoles. The Xbox Series X does have a one terabyte SSD to play with, whereas the PS5 doesn’t. So… It was always going to be a little smaller.

The Xbox Series S, as you may imagine, has a lot less storage available. It clocks in a little over 300GB in internal storage available for players to use. This makes sense, given the size (and price) differences between the two.
