PT Won’t be Playable on Playstation 5

Sony announced that 99% of their PS4 library would be playable on the upcoming Playstation 5. In total there are only around 10 or so games that won’t be backwards compatible with the new system, however it has been confirmed that PT will be one of them. PT (Playable Teaser) was a demo for, the now cancelled, Silent Hills, a continuation of the Silent Hill series developed by Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima. Due to conflicts with Konami, Kojima eventually left the company after the release on Metal Gear Solid V, and Konami decided to cancel Silent Hill.

PT was also delisted from the Playstation Store after the games cancellation, meaning that players can only play the teaser if they already have it on their system. This also means that players will have to make sure they keep hold of their PS4 consoles when the Playstation 5 launches next month if they want to keep playing PT.

It makes sense that the game wouldn’t be backwards compatitible, PT hasn’t been downloadable for many years so it wouldn’t make sense for effort to be put in to make it compatitible with the new hardware. It is a shame the game got cancelled because it looked like it was going to be really good and a return to form for the Silent Hill series. The good news is, now Hideo Kojima has broken away from Konami and is free to make whatever he wants, he is actually wanting to make the “scariest horror game ever”, could a spiritual successor to PT finally be released?
