The 2020 Tokyo Games Show didn’t bring much new to the table regarding the upcoming Resident Evil 8 that is due in 2021 (except that it may be coming to PS4 and Xbox One) but it did bring us confirmation of a new Netflix show set in the Resident Evil universe. We have been aware for months of the live action RE show that will be launching on Netflix about Wesker’s daughters surviving the end of the world after a new Raccoon City brought about another zombie apocalypse, basically The Walking Dead 2.0. The premise of that show has garnered mixed reviews, but until it launches, no one knows whether it will be good or not. Fingers crossed it will be, though.
The new animated Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness takes fans back to the roots of the franchise by focusing on the stars of Resident Evil 2, Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield. What is interesting is that the characters seem to resemble the original styles, rather than the new actors who played them in the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Claire Redfield looks a lot like her model used in Revelations 2, while Leon resembles his RE 6 appearance. Since they take place around a similar time, 2011-2013ish, then it is possible this show will take place after that, maybe after Vendetta which takes place some time after 2013.

The trailer sees Claire enter a building to find what looked like smashed vials of something (being Resident Evil, this is probably some kind of experiment gone wrong) and an unnamed dead body. We then see a scene of a zombie being shot by another unnamed character while Leon looks on. The animated movies have always kept more true to the games rather than whatever the hell the live action movies were meant to be.
As of right now, we don’t have any more information other than the trailer, but with this animated series, the live action series, and Resident Evil 8 all due out in 2021, it is going to be a very busy year in the RE universe.
