Resident Evil Village fans, mark your calendars because Capcom has finally announced a gameplay showcase!

In a tweet via the Resident Evil official twitter, Capcom has finally announced a showcase for their upcoming game, Resident Evil Village (Resident Evil 8) on the 21st of January. This will feature a guided tour of the game, more Resident Evil news, and new gameplay.

What We Know So Far About Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village will take place a few years following the events of the previous game, with the same protagonist, Ethan Winters. This means the game will continue with the first person camera perspective which was introduced during RE7. Chris Redfield, who starred in RE7’s DLC, will also be a major character in Village, as seen in the first teaser trailer released. While the game maintains the same artistic style (and game engine) as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, it will not take place in the same location. As the game’s name suggests, it is set in…you guessed it: a snowy village.

Developers have suggested that there will be an emphasis on exploration, stating ‘You have a lot more freedom in Resident Evil Village than in Resident Evil 7, we want players to experiment, to figure out what works for them’.

The game was first announced in 2020 during the PlayStation 5 reveal, and is slated for release some time in 2021. It will be released on next-gen consoles Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. No word has been given on whether it will be released for the previous generation of consoles, with Capcom’s official word being that they’re “looking into Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions”.

Following a data breach in November 2020, it was revealed that there would be several versions of the game available during release. This includes a standard version, a Digital Deluxe version which includes an extra DLC pack, a Collectors Edition and an ‘E-Capcom Only’ version exclusively for PlayStation consoles.

Better put on your jacket and get ready for January 21st, as it looks like the Village gameplay showcase is going to be a chilly affair!
