Rogue vs G2: who will reign supreme?

Updated:

LEC Summer Split is coming to an end. With all the 4 teams already locked in, it will be a question of how the seeding will be finalized. We already know that MAD Lions will play in the Worlds play-in Stage, and Fnatic will certainly either be 2nd or 1st seed. With that being said, Rogue and G2 will go against each other on Friday, with the winner facing Fnatic the following day.

Friday: Rogue vs G2

The performance Rogue showed in the last series against MAD Lions swept all the doubts I had after that 0-3 against FNC. Something crucial changed in the way Rogue played against MAD. Kacper “Inspired” Słoma played high-damage carry junglers like Graves and Evelynn, and he completely destroyed Zhiqiang “Shad0w” Zhao in the jungle matchup. Paired with safe lanes like Senna-Tahm Kench and tanky top laners for Finn, Inspired is given free agency to work around both lanes and, most importantly, invading the enemy jungler.

Inspired gave us also an explanation on why he started playing carry junglers: “Champions like Hecarim & Evelynn got buffed while ADCs got nerfed and the meta ADCs like Ashe & Senna are really squishy and easy to kill. So I think that it’s a lot easier to pull out the carry junglers now.”

This new playstyle will definitely be helpful at Worlds, since Rogue has always been good at playing traditional ADC-oriented style, and the ability to freely change between the two is a big advantage. However, they’re facing G2 first.

G2, on the other hand, lost against FNC in the Winner’s Brackets in a series that will go down in history. After facing an overall 0-7 score in the last clashes between the two teams, FNC finally managed to beat G2 in a Bo5. Nonetheless, I still think it was mainly G2 making some big mistakes and essentially throwing games. It will all depend on whether G2 will keep making bad decisions and if Rogue is able to capitalize them enough. My prediction will be a 3-1 for G2. G2 is still very strong, and I think their peak is higher than Rogue’s. This is the main reason why I think they’re going to take the series and once again face Fnatic in the Finals.
