Rust: Explosive Ammo Guide

Published:

Apart from using a bow and arrow, or smacking everyone with a rock. you can also use firearms in Rust. There are also multiple types of ammo you can load into your gun. This guide will tell you everything about the explosive ammo type in Rust.

Ammunition in Rust

Let’s start with the basics. There are different types of ammunition in Rust. Each is used for a certain category of weapons:

  • Shotgun Ammo
  • Rifle Ammo
  • Arrows
  • Rockets
  • Pistol Ammo

Some of that ammo can be found in the Supply Crates that you can find and loot in the world. Or you can craft them. For crafting, all types of ammo (except for arrows) will require Gunpowder and Metal Fragments. Arrows require wood and stone.

5.56 Rifle Ammo

5.56 is an ammo caliber that is used for assault rifles. You may know that from games like PUBG where M4 rifles also require 5.56 ammo.

In Rust, you can load the 5.56 in the Assault Rifle, LR-300, Semi-Automatic, Bolt Action, and M249. The Auto Turrets in Rust also use the 5.56 ammo type.

Now there are different kinds of 5.56:

  • 5.56 Rifle Ammo (Regular bullets, you shoot, they hit)
  • Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo (Fly slower and deal less damage but cause an explosion on hit that damages structures)
  • HV 5.56 Rifle Ammo (HV – High Velocity. Thyy fly faster and deal the same damage as the regular ammo but are more expensive to craft)
  • Incendiary 5.56 Rifle Ammo (Lower speed and damage but has a chance to start a fire on impact)

Depending on the situation using the right kind of ammo may turn the odds in your favor. So use them to gain an advantage over your opponents.

Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo

The Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo is ammunition for Assault Rifles that has a lower projectile speed and deals less damage but initiates an explosion upon hit.

Explosive ammo can be crafted from the following materials:

  • 10 Metal Fragments
  • 20 Gunpowder
  • 10 Sulfur

It takes 10 seconds to craft 2 bullets of Explosive Ammo and stacks up to 128 bullets per stack. If you want to research the Blueprint of this ammo type you can do so for 125 Scarp on the Research Table.

Now since this ammo deals less damage, it is not very handy when it comes to killing people. But what can you use it for? The answer is simple: Raiding.

Raiding with Explosive Ammo

Raiding is literally attacking other player’s bases with the goal to get the loot stored in there. It is a common practice in Rust and is a part of the game. Whether you want it or not, one day you will get raided as well.

To break into the base you will have to destroy the walls defending it. You can do it with the help of anything explosive in Rust.

Explosive Ammo deals good damage to structures, especially to the ones made of Wood or Sheet Metal, which means trying to attack someone’s base is the best way to spend your Explosive bullets.

Using Satchel Charges is also an option when it comes to Raiding. However, Satchel Charges are more expensive to craft and will take more of your resources, unlike Explosive Ammo.

Time to Raid the Shed!

I hope you are ready for it. But I’m pretty sure you are because now you have your pockets stuffed with Explosive Ammo that you know all about thanks to this guide you just read (not praising myself).

Go get some loot but do know, that one day, someone will come after yours.
