At last, the Scarif Update for Battlefront II is arriving later today. All the information on the update and the future of Battlefront II came in a Community Transmission from Creative Director Dennis Brännvall yesterday.

To state the obvious, a map based on Scarif is coming to Battlefront II via the Scarif update. Scarif, as some of you may not realize, is the holiday destination-looking planet from Rogue One. Its sandy dunes are overlooked by intense Imperial facilities which make for a one-of-a-kind experience. Scarif was also featured in Battlefront (2015) as the final update; it almost seems fitting that it is the final update for its sequel.
Unfortunately, unlike the Scarif Update that came with Battlefront (2015), we won’t be receiving any heroes based on Rogue One. The first title saw Orson Krennic and Jyn Erso added as heroes. I, for one, would love to see them back. But, alas not.
The Age of Rebellion is coming to Supremacy!
The Scarif Update also brings the Rebellion Era to the popular game mode Supremacy. This will feature Tatooine, Hoth, Yavin 4, Death Star II, and Scarif. This will prove popular with fans who have already been able to play the game mode within both the Clone Wars era and Age of Resistance.
In addition to this, the MC85 Cruiser and First Order Star Destroyer will both be added to Co-Op as maps alongside Scarif. Heroes and Villains will also receive Scarif and Crait as maps in rotation.
There’s one last set of Hero Appearances, too!
Finally, after all these years, we get mechanical-legged Darth Maul. Admittedly, it isn’t that incredible Junk Spider Thing that marks Maul’s return to Star Wars from Clone Wars. Instead, it is an appearance from him in Rebels. Either way, he features robot legs. To unlock this, fans will need to get 5,000 kills with Darth Maul. It’s a bit of a grind but not unachievable with the game’s Co-op and Instant Action modes.
We also get Rise of Skywalker-inspired appearances for Rey, Kylo Ren, and Emperor Palpatine. Rey features her yellow lightsaber and Palpatine his crimson robes. There’s also a secret hooded Rey skin that fans can get if they find something hidden on the Takodana map!

The Scarif Update also has a whole lot more in it!
One major addition is the added messaging for Damage Increase. This comes from being hit with BB-8’s Resistance Backing, or Count Dooku’s Expose Weakness. Before, there was little indication as to when this was in play. However, now there will be an added notifier above the player’s head and on the player’s health bar.
There will also be new HUD options added, Quality of Life updates, and bug fixes. Much like any major update, there is A LOT to get through, so if you’re looking for something in particular, you can look through the Patch Notes here.
After the Scarif Update, Battlefront II has realized its vision.
After the recent announcement from DICE that Battlefield V will no longer be supported with major updates, Battlefront II fans were concerned for the future of the now-popular Star Wars title.
In an open letter to fans, Dennis Brännvall laid out how the team behind Battlefront II has finally reached what they feel to be the end of the game’s life. In terms of regular-ish content updates, anyway. Here’s an excerpt from the full post:
Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future. This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come.

So… It seems that Battlefront II may be ending. It’s always hard to tell whether a game will survive after its tenure of regular updates. I, for one, hope it does. Although Battlefront II had a rocky start with a scandal around its loot box system and lack of content, it is now a beloved entry in any Star Wars fan’s library.
