Along with a number of undeniable improvements, Insomniac also debuted a new look for Peter Parker in their footage for Spider-Man Remastered, coming to PlayStation 5. Not everyone is happy.
As if Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man wasn’t already good-looking enough… They’ve decided to ramp it up to the next level using next-gen technology. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Community Director James Stevenson dives into what you can expect from the updated version of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man Remastered Has A Lot Of Improvements
Spider-Man Remastered boasts a whole slew of new models and textures for New York City. Alongside this, there will be ray-traced reflections and ambient shadows. This, when coupled with improved weather effects, will really make you feel like you’re in New York.
On top of this, the major character models have all received an update.
‘ From higher fidelity skin, eye, and teeth shaders to individually-rendered strands of hair, the new tech and detail brings our characters and their performances to new life.”
However, Some Don’t Think Peter Parker Is One Of Them
And their performances? Pretty strange way to end things, Insomniac, you might think… Well, actually no. The biggest change regarding Spider-Man Remastered is the fact that Peter Parker himself has changed.
Aside from being given a major graphical upgrade, Insomniac have actually changed the face actor for Peter Parker from John Bubniak to Ben Jordan. This has been done in an effort to get a better match for Yuri Lowenthal’s (the voice actor) facial mocap. It makes sense, really. If the raw materials are there, Insomniac would be foolish to refuse using them to improve the look of the game.
Peter Parker looks noticeably younger with the new facial model, however its hard to deny that objectively speaking… It looks incredible graphically.

Some people still aren’t fans of the change though and have taken to Twitter, and beyond, to express this.
Jokes aside, it has proven a controversial decision from Insomniac. Especially when Otto Octavius’ appearance is the same… Which may suggest the other characters are the same. It seems an unusual decision and one that I certainly can’t think of happening before. Still, I think judgements should be reserved until the game is officially out.
