Stardew Valley Creator to Focus on New Game; No More Stardew Updates

Updated:

The first Stardew Valley tournament has ended with great success. The event was done in collaboration with UnsurpassableZ and featured the game’s most dedicated players. Towards the end, a quick Q&A session was held with ConcernedApe, which discussed the future of the game.

When asked about what Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) has been working on recently, Barone replies that he was working on a new game that he may announce soon. It will be a pixel art game with a top down perspective similar to Stardew Valley, but it will not be a farming game.

He also dispelled any rumours that he was involved in Witchbrook, a pixel art simulator game that follows life in a school of magic. The confusion was likely due to Witchbrook being developed and published by Chucklefish Games, who previously published Stardew Valley before Barone cut ties with them for allegedly exploiting its developers.

The Q&A moved towards mods and the mod that allows players to marry non-marriageable candidates. Barone, stating that he finds the mods cool, mentioned that he would love to make almost everyone marriable, but it’s just “a ton of work.”

To have someone become a marriage candidate, that means I have to add a lot of dialogue and at least two more events. Snd those events take a lot of time. It may seem like it’s not that big of a deal, but they take a huge amount of time. There’s a lot of other stuff, like you have to make the spouse room. There’s just a lot to it. So that’s the reason why I haven’t just added more marriage candidates. But there’s no reason why I’m opposed to having more. I think it would be fun.

He also mentions that there are two characters in the game he has in mind about making a marriage candidate. However, he stresses that it is not in active development, so don’t expect to see additional marriage candidates.

Speaking of Stardew Valley, it appears that Barone is going to be fully focusing on his next game, and that he will not be updating the game in the future. This comes after version 1.5.

I’m not even saying if there’s going to be another Stardew Valley update, I don’t know at this point.

While fans shouldn’t expect any significant additions to the game, t hey can look forward to his next project.
