Stardew Valley has been one of the most popular simulation role-playing video games since its introduction across multiple platforms, including PC, Console and Nintendo Switch, in 2016. Want to know how to catch a Walleye in Stardew Valley? Then read on.

The game gives the player ownership of a farm and must make it thrive in the small town of Pelican Town. Want to know how to catch a Walleye in Stardew Valley, then read on.

Fishing is one of the many mini-tasks you can complete. Not only is it highly profitable but it can also up various skill levels. To fish, you simply just needed a fishing rod and a body of water. Fishing rods can be purchased from as low as 500g.

The mini-game is split into two segments, casting and catching. Fishing can be a difficult mini-game so it’s sometimes best to practice before attempting to find particular fishes. This guide will show you how to catch a Walleye in Stardew Valley.

Where can I find the Walleye fish?

Like most fish within the Stardew Valley world, there are stipulations on to when and where you can catch a particular fish. For this guide, we are going to focus on the freshwater Walleye fish.

Walleye fish can be found in rivers, lakes and in the forest pond but if you’re looking for their most common spawn spots then head to the Pelican Town River, Cindersap Forest Pond and the Mountain Lake.

You have to be particular with your timings. The Walleye is only available to catch from 12pm to 2am so make sure you have enough energy to last till that late, just in case it’s taking you a while to get lucky with a catch. The Walleye isn’t a particularly difficult fish to catch, with it given a difficulty rating of 45.

In what season and weather will I find the Walleye?

Walleye are only available to catch during the Fall and Winter seasons, during rainfall.

If rain isn’t falling when you want it to, it may be time to invest in a Rain Totem. The Rain Totem is an item that you can craft which will set the weather for the next calendar day to be, you guessed it, rainy.

You do have to be at Foraging Level 9 to make the Totem.

The items you need to obtain to craft the Rain Totem are:

  • 1 x Hardwood
  • 1 x Truffle Oil
  • 5 x Pine Tar

Once crafted, place it on your land and activate it to change the weather. If you’re not quite at the right Foraging lever, Rain Totems can sometimes be found in treasure rooms in the Skull Cavern.

If you still aren’t getting lucky with fishing, there are still other ways to get your hands on a Walleye fish. Occasionally, Walleye can be found in random garbage cans dotted around Pelican Town.

They can also be purchased from one of the Traveling Carts that visit in the Fall and Winter. The cost of the fish varies between 315 to 1000g.

Is Walleye needed for any quests?

So far, there has only been one quest that involves Walleye. Head to Pierre’s General Store and one of the random quests that are given will be to retrieve a Walleye fish for Sebastian’s book club.

If completed, your friendship with Sebastian will increase and he will pay you 315g. It isn’t worth buying one just to complete the quest as it can leave you out of pocket.

Walleye is needed to complete to Night Fishing Bundle for the Community Center. A Gold Quality Walleye is needed for the Quality Fish Bundle. Completing both of these bundles gives the reward of part completion of the Fish Tank.

There are no recipes that require Walleye, but it can be used in three recipes which are:

Sashimi
Quality Fertilizer
