Stardew Valley has been a major hit in the world of role-playing video games since its release in 2016. An even though the game is now five years old, people across the globe are still playing the game.

Not only do you get to experience life on a farm, but you can also participate in multiple different activities. One of those being fishing.

Fishing is notoriously one of the hardest side activities in the game but when you get into the swing of things, it can be a highly rewarding pastime in Stardew Valley.

In-game, there is a wide variety of fish to catch but this particular guide is going to show you how to catch an Eel in Stardew Valley.

How to catch an Eel in Stardew Valley?

An Eel can’t be found in just any bank of water across the map. To be successful in your hunt for one, you need to be looking out in the ocean. An Eel can only be found during half of the year, in seasons Spring and Fall to be particular.

Make sure you save your energy throughout the day because you can only fish for an Eel between the hours of 4 PM to 2 AM.

What weather is an Eel catchable in?

You can only catch an Eel during rainy conditions. If you aren’t having any luck and rain clouds keep skipping Stardew Valley, then a Rain Totem may be for you.

The Rain Totem, when placed correctly, will make sure it rains the next day in your calendar, making hunting for Eel that little bit easier.

To obtain a Rain Totem, you need to be at Foraging Level 9 and then craft it.

The items you need to obtain to craft the Rain Totem are:

  • 1 x Hardwood
  • 1 x Truffle Oil
  • 5 x Pine Tar

Once the Rain Totem has been crafted, place it on your land and activate it for the rain to pour the next day. If you’re not quite at the right Foraging Level yet the sometimes Rain Totems can be found in treasure rooms in the Skull Cavern.

If you’re still struggling to obtain an Eel, they can randomly be found in Garbage Cans across the map during the seasons of Spring and Fall. You can also purchase an eel from the Traveling Cart at a cost of between 255-1000g.

Is Eel needed for anything?

An Eel may be requested during Spring or Fall on the “Help Wanted” board outside of Pierre’s General Store. You’ll be given a reward of 255g and 150 friendship points from whoever gives you the quest.

It’s also needed to complete the Night Fishing Bundle for the Fish Tank in the Community Center. You’ll be rewarded with a Small Glow Ring once this bundle is complete.

Eel is needed for two recipes. They are as followed:

  • Fried Eel
  • Spicy Eel

The eel can also be used in:

  • Maki Roll
  • Quality Fertilizer
  • Sashimi

The eel can be used on the Sewing Machine, located in Emily and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane. The Eel is used on the spool to make the Sailor Shirt. Eel’s also make orange dye.
