Today Nintendo released a more in depth look into the upcoming release for the Nintendo Switch title Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
It would have been easy to write this game off as nothing more than a 1 to 1 port with some mysterious new DLC areas to explore, reminiscent of similar Wii-U-to-Switch releases on the platform. Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe come to mind. Until today, we had no further information on what that DLC expansion, titled “Bowsers Fury” means and then this happened:

Yeah that’s Bowser at Godzilla scale. King Koopa found the gym.

Oh and that’s Mario in a Lion suit at an equally large scale via the new Super-Bell power-up.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about this expansion but the trailer at least helps us get a better understanding of what we’ll be doing.
There seems to be heavy focus on Cat Mario and Bowser Jr in his clown car as they roam around the DLC themed area. Fans will note some interesting new platforming challenges in the trailer where Bowser Jr must use his paint brush to uncover secrets.

Within the trailer, we’re able to see some great range in obstacles and enemies. It also seems the island itself is a small hub world that will allow some freedom in how you’d like to complete the challenges which I’d imagine has something to with giving yourself access to the giant Cat Bell power-ups.

Ultimately, I’m most excited for the expansive, island-sprawling battle with Bowser. From the trailer I’m immediately reminded of the epic battle between Link and Calamity Gannon in Breath of the Wild. From the sheer scale of the battle and how it dynamically affects the island’s platforms and scenery, I’d say there’s plenty of room for replayability and speed-runs.

Fans don’t have to wait long to challenge Bowser’s Fury as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury drops February 12 of this year.
