A heartbreaking moment for the LEC team, who was leading surprisingly the series 2-0. Top Esports, then, destroyed FNC’s dreams piece by piece, reverse sweeping them to another heavy defeat. Once again, FNC has fallen to an LPL team…
TES vs FNC – Surprise after Surprise
Despite the result, the series actually started off really well for FNC. Bwipo pulled out Singed, another unique champion, as it looked like the team came prepared. With Hylissang picking up first blood, FNC looked feisty against one of the favorites of the tournament. Game 1 was a delight: Fnatic had superior team fights & better set-ups, allowing them to strike first & gain the 1st point in the series.
Game 2 followed a similar script: both teams were in close distance economically-wise, with TES slightly in the lead. The game, however, was turned around with extremely good execution by the EU representative. They regained the lead with a Baron PowerPlay & Infernal Soul to demolish Top Esports.
Fnatic looked more & more like they could sweep TES 3-0. It would’ve been the upset of the tournament so far. However, things started going downhill…
TES vs FNC – the Reverse Sweep
Top Esports stopped FNC’s momentum in Game 3. Questionable draft from the LEC team, as they last picked Kha’Zix for Selfmade against JackeyLove’s Ezreal supported by Karma. The teams were even, once again, in the early game but TES pulled the trigger quickly & started building a gap. The gold advantage allowed them to win at a dragon fight which subsequently turned into a point of no recover for FNC.
Game 4 was the ultimate bloodfest. A total of 24 kills in 18 minutes was the indicator that FNC was risking it all. Unfortunately, it didn’t pay off. Another decisive dragon fight was lost, with 3 members falling for none from TES’ side. Another Baron PowerPlay & another loss. TES completely annihilated FNC’s momentum as the Silver Scrapes were playing.
In the decisive Game 5, TES left open Nemesis’ Twisted Fate, one of his comfort picks. Despite that, the outcome didn’t change. Karsa’s Lee Sin took over TES’ early game, perfectly executing play after play, punishing Nemesis over & over. The most important game ended in the least exciting way possible. TES was in complete control & in 25 minutes, they opened FNC’s base for the 3rd time in a row, completing the Reverse Sweep
Another bittersweet ending for FNC, as they have fallen to another LPL team. Nonetheless, they will go home with the heads up high, as they almost pulled out a miracle against one, if not, the best team in the tournament. TES, on the other hand, will face the other LPL representative, Suning, for a ticket to the Worlds Finals. It will be another all-out clash between them, who they’ve already faced during the whole season.
