With Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remaster right around the corner, the long awaited Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater documentary titled ‘Pretending I’m A Superman’ is finally hitting digital platforms.
The documentary will release on August 18th and will feature Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Chad Muska, Steve Caballero and Jamie Thomas as they discuss the rise of skateboarding during the mid 90’s, which ultimately led to the game being made. The documentary’s title come from a line in the Goldfinger song “Superman”, which is perhaps the most iconic song from the franchise.

The documentary is directed by Swedish director Ludvig Gür and produced by D’Amato Productions, a studio owned by former Neversoft producer Ralph D’Amato. The two met in 2016 and agreed to do the documentary.
“It’s part of my career and my life. It was a little bit selfish. I thought the story was cool enough. The glory days and that nostalgia of projects that you worked on. I just thought it was a really cool story. My initial thought of it was a lot different than how Ludvig saw it. Thankfully, he’s the director and I’m the producer. And his vision was seen through.” D’Amato told CBS Sports in a recent interview.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater took skateboarding from the underground to mainstream. Coupled with the rise of the Pop-Punk and Nu Metal music genres, which were big parts of the skateboarding world, it was a perfect storm to push skating to the masses. During the late 90’s and early 2000’s, more people skated than ever, including myself, although I was never very good.

It is a shame to see skating go back to a more underground status once again, but with THPS 1+2 Remaster coming in September and a new Skate game in development, maybe a new generation will wear the baggy trousers and grind some rails.
Pretending I’m A Superman launches on August 18th on unspecified streaming platforms and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remaster launches on September 4th on PC, PS4 & Xbox One.
