Yiliang ‘Doublelift‘ Peng has been a veteran of the League of Legends scene since day 1. His history in the industry is one of the longest one, playing for big NA LCS names such as Counter Logic Gaming, TeamLiquid and finally TSM. His began his journey all the way in Season 1.

On his twitter account, TeamSoloMid ADC, Doublelift, shared his final words and announced his retirement from professional League of Legends with the caption “Reflections”.

“When I sat down to play my first match, I felt a fire in my heart that drove me to chase the dream of becoming a pro player and being the best.”

He’s been known for his aggressive and ‘greedy’ attitude in and out of the League stage but fans cannot take away the credit of the massive amount of work he has put into a game that his life has revolved around for years. Doublelift’s teams seems to always just be a step short when performing internationally.

“I’d like to have been able to say I won Worlds (or even just made it to quarters), but let’s just have the rookies take up the torch on that one.”

In his post, he calls his League of Legends start as a rebirth or “a chance to be the person I always wanted to be“, mentioning his unconfident days prior to entering the competitive scene.

There has been rumours during Free Agency that Doublelift might turn to retirement if TSM is unable to take LPL’s skilled support, SwordArt, under its wing to become his duo. However, there is no mention of this account on his retirement post. Fans will have to wait for TSM’s official words regarding that issue.

“Thank you for watching me grow from a hopeless kid into a successful adult. I’ll be starting a new chapter of life now, and I’d like your support in that too.”

TeamSoloMid has yet to comment on Doublelift’s retirement following TSM’s previous mid-laner, Bjergsen’s, transition to coaching after their Worlds 2020 performance. We wonder what will be coming for Doublelift next but he will definitely be a name written down in the LCS history books. His retirement will further shake how North America will look like in the upcoming season.

Thank you, Doublelift! We wish you the best on your future endeavors.
