Valve CEO Hints at Steam Games Coming to Consoles

Published:

In a recent interview at a New Zealend high school, Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, hinted that Steam games might be coming to consoles by the end of the year. When asked whether we’ll se Steam games on consoles or if they’ll remain PC exclusives, Gabe answered that “we”ll have a better idea by end of the year”.

The excerpt of the interview was posted to r/HalfLife by u/Odysseic, which you can check out here. The whole interview, split into 4 parts, was also posted by u/Odysseic here.

Which games might be coming to consoles?

Of course, this is nothing more that a vague statement by Newell, and we can only speculate what’s in store for the premier video game store. Steam itself coming to consoles is highly unlikely, though, as consoles already have their dedicated marketplaces – having Steam alongside them would probably make a mess of things.

If I had to take a guess, I’d put all my money on Half Life: Alyx coming to PS5 and PSVR, especially given the announcement of PSVR improvements for the PS5. There’s also a possibility of other PC-exclusives coming to consoles, but the Orange Box, or maybe even its remaster, coming to next gen consoles is just wishfull thinking. In the same interview, Newell also announced upcoming updates for Team Fortress 2, and if that means that TF2 is coming to consoles or not is up to you to decide.

My third and final guess would be that, since Valve has some games in the works, we could see cross-platform releases for whatever Valve’s working on. Hopefully, they’ve found a cure for their triskaphobia and we’ll see a Valve game with the suffix “3” for the first time ever.
