Call of Duty Vanguard finally launched fully on November 5th, much to the delight of the franchise’s fans and players. In the months running up to Vanguard’s release, Sledgehammer Games never held back on disclosing details about the game and the missions in Vanguard.
Vanguard offers players a number of game modes to dive into. While there are many differing viewpoints on the new campaign and the returning Zombies mode, the players are wondering how many missions are in the Vanguard campaign.
Considering the fact that the last couple of Call of Duty titles had 10 and 14 missions in their campaigns, we were assuming for a number around the same for Vanguard. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the number of missions in Vanguard and how they fit into the Vanguard campaign story.
How Many Missions in Vanguard
The story of Vanguard is set during World War II, and it follows members of a special forces squad. This squad comprises includes the four war heroes and is called Task Force One. There are nine primary missions in the campaign, but we’re still figuring out if there are any side missions or alternate ending missions to add to that number.
Both the previous Call of Duty titles, Modern Warfare and Cold War had 10 and 14 missions in their campaigns. Even though the number is higher, the thing to consider is that some of the missions in those titles were simple ‘briefings’ and had negligible impact on the main story.

Each mission corresponds to a chapter and transports you to various destinations throughout the globe. The characters you control as a result of the barrage of gunfire change as well.
Right through the campaign, you’ll switch between the perspectives of the main members of Task Force One, including Novak, the team’s sixth member who was brutally slain right at the start. The plot revolves around Richard Webb, Arthur Kingsley, Polina Petrova, Lucas Riggs, and Wade Jackson. They team up to combat the Nazis and the main adversary, Hermann Freisinger.
How Long Will Vanguard Missions Take To Complete?
The campaign of Call of Duty: Vanguard will last between 5 and 6 hours, based on the missions in Vanguard and full playthrough runtimes.
However, it might take longer than usual if you decide to play on the Veteran difficulty level. Achievements are unlockable for different difficulty levels as well. Apart from the campaign mode, Vanguard also offers Multiplayer and Zombies mode. Further, a new map will be launched with Season 1 on December 2nd.
