What is the Fastest GT3 Car in Assetto Corsa Competizione?

Assetto Corsa Competizione

The following is an excerpt from a tutorial I recently wrote for Coach Dave Academy, the premier provider of setups and coaching for ACC.

One of Assetto Corsa Competizione’s greatest strengths is its roster of hyper-realistic cars. With as-real-as-it-gets physics, laser-scanned tracks, and general attention to detail, ACC provides one of the best sim racing experiences available. With so many different cars to choose from, those looking for a competitive edge may want to know which GT3 car on the roster is the quickest.

Before taking a look at the data, it is essential to note that GT3 cars have a pretty healthy Balance of Performance (BoP). If you are unfamiliar with BoP, here is a quick refresher: Balance of Performance is the mechanism by which a wide variety of competing vehicles can compete on a level playing field in any given race.

In short, BoP aims to make every car on the grid competitive. After all, motorsport (whether virtual or not) is meant to highlight the drivers’ ability.

While BoP is excellent, it is not always perfect. In a class like GT3, some cars are going to be inherently faster than others. This performance disparity is due to different car characteristics that may make specific car/track pairs ideal.

Additionally, a lot goes into driving a car fast. The correct setup will go a long way towards reducing lap times. However, the fastest setup may not be the easiest to drive. A more aggressively setup car will often be faster, but getting the most out of that aggressive setup requires a much higher degree of skill and precision from the driver.

With all that background out of the way, Coach Dave Academy is here to help! The team here has worked hard in collecting data while developing setups for different cars. Let’s quickly discuss that data.

Our Data

When Coach Dave Academy develops setups for a new car, we collect all the lap time data. All this data is entered into a spreadsheet, and we are then able to view car performance on a macro scale. By comparing the lap times of different cars across multiple tracks, we can identify the top performers.

For each track, each car with a top-three lap time is awarded points. The most points are awarded for the fastest lap time, less for second fastest, and least for third. In the case of two cars with the same lap time, both cars are awarded the same amount of points. These points are then aggregated for all fifteen tracks, allowing us to rate each car objectively.

This data will help us answer your burning question, “What is the fastest GT3 car in ACC?”.

Porsche 911 II GT3 R

Let’s cut to the chase, the notoriously difficult-to-drive Porsche 911 II GT3 R is the fastest GT3 car in ACC.

Of the fifteen tracks in ACC, the Porsche, using a Coach Dave Academy setup, records the fastest lap time at seven of those tracks.

In addition to having the fastest time at seven tracks, the Porsche also records the second-fastest time at four tracks and the third-fastest time at one. That means that the Porsche is fast enough for a podium at 80% of tracks.

If you are looking for the ultimate edge, it’s time to tame the beast that is the Porsche 911 II GT3 R.
