Logitech have been designing and manufacturing entry-level sim racing equipment for a number of years now, and it’s safe to say they’re very good at it. Recently they announced the arrival of a new product, the Logitech G923 TrueForce steering wheel and pedal set.
The main change between the G29/G920 and the new Logitech G923 (still available for either platform but now grouped with one model name) is the introduction of TrueForce. A technology that Logitech claim to be “next-gen force feedback”. However, it is known that the only physical changes inside the wheel is circuitry and a new processor, motors remain unchanged from the G29/G920. So, what is TrueForce and how does it work?
Effectively TrueForce is a higher fidelity, more accurate, motorised force feedback system using a new algorithm created by Logitech. It can utilise both game audio and game physics to deliver vibrations, and more accurate feedback responses to the steering wheel. It requires support from game and simulator developers in order for it to work effectively but that is already present on games such as GRID, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Gran Turismo Sport. iRacing doesn’t officially support it yet but you can turn it on in the sim files.
TrueForce should effectively revitalise a technology that Logitech have been using for over 10 years now by giving it a new characteristic which gives drivers new references for vehicle behaviour.
