Xbox Series X Loading Times for Monster Hunter: World Shows It’s the Real Monster

Updated:

It’s no surprise that next gen consoles are shaping up to be powerhouses in the hardware categories. Boasting fast loading times and improved loading times, Xbox Series X looks to indeed be a monster of a console. And what better way to showcase that than booting up Monster Hunter: World?

In a video by Arekkz Gaming, he compares the loading times of Monster Hunter: World for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 Pro with an SSD installed. From boot up to title screen, the times are approximately as shown (the time is shown as seconds and frames):

  • Xbox Series X: 21;35 seconds
  • PlayStation 5: 32;42 seconds
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 41;36 seconds

From boot up to starting the game where the player has control of their character, the total times are:

  • Xbox Series X: 38;18 seconds
  • PlayStation 5: 1 minute and 2;41 seconds.
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 1 minute and 13;29 seconds

When loading, departing, and arriving on a quest, the times are:

  • Xbox Series X: 18;48 seconds
  • PlayStation 5: 30;10 seconds
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 35;57 seconds

It is worth noting that, as mentioned in the video, Arekkz made a mistake when timing the Xbox Series X when setting up the quest. In Monster Hunter: World, a player can limit the maximum amount of players down to 1. By doing this, the player can ready up as the quest loads and as soon as the loading is finished, the player automatically departs for the quest.

In the video, Arekkz forgot to limit the player count, meaning that once the quest finishes loading, he needed to press an additional button to confirm the departure. Even with the extra prompt, the Xbox Series X was still significantly faster than the other two.

The next gen consoles can also run Monster Hunter: World in Resolution mode while still running at 60fps. Monster Hunter World has 3 settings: Resolution mode, which supports 4k at the expense of frame rate; Framerate mode, which prioritizes 60fps in 1080p; and Graphics mode, which is also in 1080, but with greater details and a slight hit to frames per second when compared to Framerate mode.

Furthermore, Monster Hunter: World is a current gen game, meaning that it has not been optimized for the new consoles, so the loading times could theoretically be faster.

Capcom has multiple teams working on Monster Hunter, so although Monster Hunter: Rise is currently in development for the Switch, the next Monster Hunter game for the next gen consoles could already be in the works right now.

It will be exciting to see what the Monster Hunter team could do with the newer hardware and how they can bring even more life into the series.
