On Nov. 20, DAMWON Gaming announced that they’ve re-signed Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee. With Nuclear’s departure and BeryL’s return, the support player will be the team’s new captain.
BeryL’s Career at DAMWON Gaming
Back in 2017, BeryL started as an ADC, transitioning to support the year after. After transitioning, BeryL’s performance alongside his teammates allowed them to qualify for the 2019 LCK Spring Split. The newly-promoted team did not change any members of its roster, managing to end 5th in their first split with an 11-7 record. Not only that, but they qualified also for Worlds 2019 after winning the Regional Finals.
This year, BeryL & his teammates dominated the competition at Worlds, beating Suning 3-1 in the finals. With such peak performances from the team, it looked like the team would stay together for surely another year.

BeryL will be the DWG’s New Captain in 2021
On Nov. 17, some of DWG’s players, including BeryL, were released as free agents. The other players were: Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon, Lee “Flame” Ho-jong, Ryu “Hoit” Ho-seong, and Shin “Nuclear” Jung-hyun. While it seems like Flame, Hoit & Nuclear won’t play on DWG anymore, Nuguri is still in talks to re-sign, as the organization has publicly announced its intent on Twitter.
With captain Nuclear’s retiring, BeryL has also become the new captain. His contract has been updated on the GDC, until Nov. 15, 2021.
With only Nuguri left to re-sign, it looks like DAMWON Gaming will be targeting the Worlds Championship once again. They’re trying everything to reach the goal, as they also changed the Coaching Staff: former SKT T1 Coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun has become DWG’s new Head Coach.
The team is looking even stronger with a coach of his caliber, so definitely look forward to the team’s performance in the 2021 LCK Spring Split!
