If you’re looking to optimise your Deep Rock Galactic Gear setup, you’ve come to the right place! This short M1000 Classic mods guide will discuss the options for the five tiers of M1000 Classic mods and whether or not they’re worth considering in your own mod build or outright skippable.
The M1000 Classic has two basic builds, not accounting for any overclocked inspired adjustments – the primary build is the Focused shot build, and the other is the hipfire “hipster” build. Generally focused shot is better, and provided you don’t have significant aim issues, also easier – so I’ll be focusing on that
Tier 1
- Expanded Ammo Bags – Maximum ammo increased by 40
- Increased Caliber Rounds – Damage per shot increased by 20%
This will be a rare occasion where I actually advocate against Expanded Ammo bags – Unless you’re using a hipfire build and spamming shots out excessively the M1000 Classic is one of those weapons that simply has enough ammo naturally, and thus the 20% damage boost becomes a good de-facto replacement.

Tier 2
- Fast-Charging Coils – Focus spread increased by 30%
- Better Weight Balance – Halved recoil
As you have a natural downtime between shots while using the charged-shot focused build, your recoil is quite easy to control – making Better Weight Balance a bit of a waste and leaving Fast-Charging Coils as the default choice here.
Tier 3
- Killer Focus – Focused shot deals an additional 25% damage
- Extended Clip – Clip size increased by 6
This is another choice that is easily made by which build you are going for. Focused Shots will quite obviously benefit from additional Focused-shot damage granted by Killer Focus. Extended Clip on the other hand is far more useful for a hip firing build to reduce time spent reloading.

Tier 4
- Super Blowthrough Rounds – Shots will penetrate up to 3 targets, stopping in a 4th
- Hollow-Point Bullets – Weakpoint damage bonus increased by 25%
- Hardened Rounds – Damage dealt to armour increased by an additional 220%
Hardened Rounds seem to me to be a trap choice for the M1000 Classic, as at least with a focus build you are unlikely to be firing multiple shots into armour – intentionally, at least. Therefore damage dealt to armour is at best a minor benefit that’s only occurring when you miss your intended targets – weak points.
If you typically want to use the M1000 to destroy larger targets, Hollow-Point Bullets will provide ample value on that front by boosting your weakpoint damage significantly. If you want to use it more frequently than just as an elite killer weapon, the shot peneration is likely more valuable as it’ll boost the weapons potency against groups of enemies substantially.

Tier 5
- Hitting Where it Hurts – Focused shots will always stun the target
- Precision Terror – Kills with focused shots cause an AoE Fear
- Killing Machine – Reloads are performed much faster after a kill
This tier is packed with viable options, so to some extent it’ll come down to your personal preference. Hitting Where it Hurts will be a great boon for keeping larger targets still to allow yourself or your teammates to beat away at them, or re-locate for a better angle.
Precision Terror, by contrast will be far more useful when using a Focused Shot into a horde of enemies, and buying time for you to relocate elsewhere as they all run around in fear.
Finally, Killing Machine is a fair bit more boring and simply allows faster reloads after kills, but it’s a very safe choice if you’re running a focused shot build as kills will be regular events.
