Flare Gun Mods

If you’re looking to optimise your Deep Rock Galactic Gear setup, you’ve come to the right place! This short Flare Gun mods guide will discuss the options for the three tiers of flare gun mods and whether or not they’re worth considering in your own mod build or outright skippable.

Tier 1

  • Expanded Ammo Bags – Total ammo capacity increased by 3
  • Thicker Core – Flares from the flare gun last 15 additional seconds each

Once again on a tool mod setup, simple choices that come down to preference. You’ll get to take either of these again effectively in tier 3. Expanded Ammo Bags is probably better while new to the game as it’ll net you more flares at the start of a run and during resupply. Thicker Core is a solid choice if you want to forget about flares a little bit longer.

Tier 2

  • Supercharged Feed Mechanism – Rate of fire increased by 3
  • High Capacity Magazine – Magazine size increased by 1

Ah yes, Supercharged Feed Mechanism. Please stop appearing in utility-based tools, fire rate is almost entirely useless here – its a good way to waste flares and run out of ammo early though. With that said, your other “option” – or rather, the default choice – is High Capacity Magazine.

Tier 3

  • Auto Reload – The flare gun reloads automatically when unequipped for longer than 5 seconds
  • Expanded Ammo Bags – Total ammo capacity increased by 3
  • Magnesium Core – Flares from the flare gun last 15 additional seconds each

Auto Reload is an interesting option to be offered – and you can certainly argue that if you swap to your flare gun and find you didn’t reload it previously it can be tedious to deal with. Worth considering, but if you can manage without it, both Expanded Ammo Bags and Magnesium Core are solid straight-up raw stat increases, and both have a definite value. Take the Auto Reload if you really want it, otherwise, take one of the reliable upgrades instead.

That should leave you with a Flare Gun mods setup looking something like this, and that will be the end of this short mods guide. Did you make any different choices? Can you actually somehow justify that rate of fire upgrade as an actual choice and not just a troll hiding as an upgrade? Hit me up in the comments if you did.
