How to Craft
You can craft from the very beginning of DayZ – there’s no unlockable skill or other barriers to entry. The only things you’ll need are the ingredients to complete a crafting recipe.
Recipes aren’t objects in DayZ – you won’t have to collect them before you can craft. You just need to find the ingredients for the recipe in the wilderness, then craft them in your inventory.
Crafting items is as simple as opening your inventory, then selecting one of the ingredients and dragging it over to your hands. Next, drag the second item over and hit the ‘combine’ button at the bottom of the screen.
Essential Crafting Recipes
DayZ has a wide range of craftable items for you to create. You can experiment with different ingredients and materials to try to produce items, but if you want to get off to a solid start, try out these essential recipes first.
Stone Knife
Stone knives are great multi-purpose tools that will help you out massively through DayZ’s early game. They can be used for self-defense, to free players from restraints, to open tinned food, and more.
You can craft a stone knife by combining two small stones. You’ll find small stones on hiking paths, rocky beaches, and along railway tracks.
Fireplace
Once you have a blade, you can get started on making a fireplace to provide warmth and a place to cook.
You can craft a fireplace with many different recipes. The most convenient recipe combines wooden sticks and tree bark. You can find these ingredients by using your knife on bushes and trees, respectively.
