Fishing is a great way to make money or gather cooking ingredients in Coral Island. Catching fish is also integral for completing some quests, and filling the island museum.
We’ll cover exactly how to fish in Coral Island down below, as well as how to increase your chances of finding rare and valuable fish.
How to Get a Fishing Rod
Before you can start catching fish, you’ll first need to get a fishing rod. You can get one after finishing the ‘Home Sweet Home’ quest. Once the quest is complete, collect your newly-delivered mail from your mailbox.
Once you’ve read the mail, head over to Sunny’s Beach Shack to receive the fishing rod from Sunny and Eleanor.
How to Fish in Coral Island
Now that you’ve acquired a fishing rod, you can use it on any body of water. Equip it to your hotbar, select it, then walk up to the water you want to fish in. Click the left mouse button to cast out your fishing line.
Now that the line is in the water, look out for fish-shaped shadows in the water. Once one bites onto your hook, press and hold the left mouse button to begin reeling it in. This will start a mini-game where you will have to manage the newly-appeared meter in the center of the screen.
The main part of the meter represents how close a fish is to being brought onto land and caught. The part you have to really pay attention to, though, is the wavy line that appears below and above the meter.
This line indicates how much tension is on the fishing line. As it gets longer and turns red, the tension increases, raising the chance that the line will snap and you’ll lose the fish. Be sure to let go of the mouse button before this happens to reduce the tension.
Manage the line’s tension and keep reeling in the fish and you’ll catch it in no time.
Catching Better Fish
There are two ways you can increase your chances of catching rare and valuable fish. The first way is to level up your fishing skill through repeated fishing. By leveling up your fishing skill, you’ll gain the ability to use better bait that can attract rare fish.
The second is through buying a better fishing rod. You can purchase one from the same place you got the original fishing rod – Sunny’s beach shack. You’ll get the option to buy an upgraded fishing rod for 3,700 coins. This rod has a higher chance of bringing in difficult to catch fish.
