Updated:

Out of reach from most of your predators, you can traverse the world from the skies with little threat. Figuring out how to fly the gyrocopter in 7 Days to Die and finally gaining flight gives the game a new angle. In this guide, we will walk you through how to craft and fly the gyrocopter, allowing you to travel with the best speed and safety.

Surviving in 7 Days to Die is the main aim of this survival horror game. The zombie hordes will more than likely prove to be the biggest threat in the game, however not the only ones, so learning to fly gives quite the advantage against them. Despite being away from the zombies, vultures still prove a big threat so beware.

First things first, you will need the skills or schematics to craft the gyrocopter. The schematics can be found around the world while you loot. The skill required to craft the vehicle is the “Avionics Wizard” which is the last level of the “Grease Monkey” skill under the intelligence tree.

Once you gain the skills or schematics to craft the vehicle, you will then need a workbench to craft it in. The gyrocopter is a late-game item so you will more than likely have a workbench by then and possibly all of the items needed to craft it. This will begin the first step in flying the gyrocopter in 7 Days to Die.

You can craft the gyrocopter using:

  • Three wheels
  • One gyrocopter chassis
  • One Gyrocopter accessories
  • One engine
  • One lead car battery

It takes four and a half minutes to craft once started and can be refueled using gas cans and repaired with a repair kit. The recommended mods for the vehicle are the vehicle fuel saver mod which makes it use less fuel. The reserve fuel tank increases its fuel capacity. Finally, the supercharger increases its speed and acceleration.

Flying the Gyrocopter in 7 Days to Die

Flying the vehicle is very simple once you get the hang of it. The gyrocopter is not a helicopter-like vehicle, it works more like a plane.

Once you have crafted the vehicle and placed it down outside, you will need to fuel it up. This can be done by holding your interact button, defaulting “E” on the PC, and selecting the refuel option at the bottom.

Once field up, you can enter the vehicle using E. The rest of the controls are as follows:

  • A – left rotation
  • D – right rotation
  • W – throttle (forward)
  • S – break/reverse
  • C – pitch nose down
  • Spacebar – pitch nose up
  • E – mount/dismount
  • X – horn
  • Shift = turbo

Actually flying the gyrocopter in 7 Days to Die is done by holding W until you start to gain some speed, after that hold the spacebar in until the nose is pointed at a bit of an incline to go up. Once at the desired height, hold C until the gyrocopter levels out. If you hold in one of the pitch keys too long you will start to flip the vehicle.

Getting a hang of the controls will take some time to master, although once you do, the world will become incredibly easy to travel. Make sure to always check your fuel levels as it will not be the best if you fall out of the sky.

That is a quick rundown of how to fly the gyrocopter in 7 Days to Die, be very careful with the pitch and your surroundings and try not to exit the vehicle mid-flight. Or you may end up in the middle of a zombie horde and then you’ll need other tools to deal with them:
