How to get Vine Goo in Raft - Crafting Menu

Vine goo is an important mid-game resource that’s actually required to start Raft’s story. Without vine goo, you can’t craft circuit boards. Without circuit boards, you can’t craft a receiver – meaning you can’t start the story. Here’s how to get Vine Goo in Raft.

To get vine goo in Raft, you need to smelt seaweed in a smelter. Farm seaweed from the reefs around an island, put it in your smelter, and after 45 seconds the seaweed will have turned into vine goo.

That’s the short of it, but there’s obviously a little more to talk about vine goo in Raft than that. We’re going to go over the three-step process to getting vine goo below. If you have any outstanding questions, there’s no doubt that we’ve got the answers you’re looking for.

Get Seaweed

The first step to crafting vine goo in Raft is to get your hands on some seaweed. Seaweed is found in the reefs that spawn around islands. They look like large, green plants. There are typically a lot of them on each island, more than enough to sustain you for several hours’ worth of gameplay.

Keep in mind, though, that each seaweed plant only yields one seaweed. So, get yourself to an island and do some diving. Once you have some seaweed in your inventory, then you can move on to the next step in the vine goo process.

Craft a Smelter

That next step is to craft yourself a smelter. This is a mid-game item that really defines that transition from early-game to mid-game. Smelters are used to make all sorts of essential items in Raft, including bolts, glass, metal and copper ingots, and vine goo.

To craft a smelter, you need to dry out six wet bricks. That requires a lot of clay and sand – found in the same reefs as seaweed. So, if you’re farming for seaweed, make sure you’re grabbing that stuff, as well. In total, you’ll need the following raw resources to craft one smelter:

  • 4 planks
  • 8 scraps
  • 12 sand
  • 12 clay

Those resources aren’t too bad for the most part. However, getting your hands on 12 sand and 12 clay will require you to visit multiple islands. During that time, if you’re gathering seaweed as well, you’ll have more than enough to see you through a good long while. If you still need to craft a smelter, make that a priority.

Once you have your smelter built, load it up with planks and just put your seaweed inside of it. In about 45 seconds, your seaweed will be turned into vine goo, and you can collect it from the smelter.

So, vine goo is important. Make a point of stocking up on it early and you’ll be much better off for it.

Hopefully, that answered any and all questions you might have had about how to get vine goo in Raft. It’s an important crafting material to stock up on, but far more plentiful than the likes of metal ingots.

Put in an hour of farming seaweed, and you might not ever run out of vine goo in the future. In the meanwhile here are a few Raft guides you might need on your journey:
