7 Days to Die is all about survival, it is based on your ability to survive in a cruel and harsh world. Neglecting basic necessities like food, water and weather can set you back, and you need to quickly adapt to stay on top. Knowing how to get water in 7 Days to Die is as important as combat, so let’s look at the best ways to gather it.
Water as a whole got an entire rework back in Alpha 13, with the most prominent changes being made to water physics and where you can source it from. You can get it from a lot of sources now, and you’re guaranteed to not run out of water. That is if you know where to look.
Gathering Water in 7 Days to Die
Now, you’re going to need one of the following items if you want to start gathering water:
- Empty Can
- Glass Jar
- Bucket
Holding them in your hand and right-clicking near a water source will fill them with water.
Glass Jars are your best bet when it comes to turning murky water into boiled/purified water. Empty Cans can also be used for the same purpose. But, you can’t stack or boil more than one can of water at a time.
Buckets on the other hand can’t be utilized to convert water. They are exclusively used to move water source blocks from one place to another. One bucket can hold a single water source block, so make sure to stock up on a lot of buckets if you want to make a pond in your backyard.
Sources of Water in 7 Days to Die
These are all of the ways that you can currently find water in 7 Days to Die:
- Rivers, Lakes, and Snow
- Hydrating foods
- Toilets that only give murky water
- Water Towers around the world that contain pools of water
Rivers and Lakes are by far the best source of water, as there will be a lot of them around the world. They also usually contain more than enough water source blocks, so you could easily live off of 1 river or lake for a while. Snow can also be collected with a shovel and melted into a Jar or Can.
Foods like Blueberries and Yucca Smoothies are a great way to hydrate yourself. We’d advise you to keep items like Smoothies or Coffee just in case you run out of water on a loot run.
Toilets were once a popular way to gather water, but they’ve since been nerfed. Now you only receive murky water from them. No one really understood why you could get purified water from toilets in the first place.
There’s also another reliable way that you can get a lot of murky water from – Water Towers. Water towers do what you would expect them to, they supply water. These can usually be found around a town or villages, and contain more than enough water for your needs.
How to Store Water in 7 Days to Die
The best way for you to store water would be to create a 2×2 or 4×4 hole somewhere in your backyard or basement. Then make a couple of buckets and find a water source to collect water from. Fill that newly created hole up to the brim, and refill it every couple of days.
Having a source of water in your base not only guarantees safety but also saves you a lot of time. Considering you will need boiled water in a very large amount of crafting/cooking recipes that will aid you in your survival against hordes.
You could technically make somewhat of a homemade water tower yourself and then store your water there. However, building such a thing before the first 7 day horde night will cripple your progress on other crucial base builds.
The constant changes that 7 Days to Die goes through are commendable and expected, but they can sometimes be confusing for returning players. But there are still mechanics that will be relevant to you at any time:
