How to Have Kids in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Having kids is vital if you want to continue your bloodline in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

Unfortunately, you’ll first have to date and marry an NPC before you can have kids. This lengthens the process massively, and can make having kids difficult if you don’t know how to successfully marry.

Getting married in Bannerlord is an arduous task full of dialogue choices and pitfalls. Luckily, you can get through it relatively quickly if you know how.

Finding a Potential Spouse

First, you’ll have to find an NPC you want to marry. You can find single NPCs of the opposite sex in Lord’s Halls within large towns.

Once you’ve chosen a potential spouse, talk to them and ask to discuss something with them. Next, mention that you admire them, then offer your hand in marriage.

Assuming the NPC is interested in your offer, your relationship with the NPC will begin, starting with a courting period where you’ll have to pick the right dialogue choices and complete some mini-games. The first thing you’ll have to do in this phase is speak to your potential spouse about spending time together.

This will start a dialogue-based mini-game that requires you to pick three successful dialogue options to win. Luckily, the game will show you the percentage chances of each dialogue option being successful. Stick to the options with the highest chances and you’ll get through the mini-game in no time.

Once you’ve finished this mini-game, wait a while and return to the NPC. Ask to talk about a future together to start the same dialogue mini-game again. The game works the same way as before, but will have much lower chances of success than before.

Consider raising your character’s charm stat to increase your odds of success in this mini-game. You can do this by successfully bartering, releasing Lords after battle, and improving your relationships with Lords.

Marrying Your Spouse

Once you’ve completed the second mini-game, you’ll have to track down your partner’s father or clan leader to ask permission to marry them. Use your partner’s encyclopedia to find the name and estimated location of the NPC you’re looking for, then find them on the world map.

Once you’ve found them, talk to them and discuss the marriage. You’ll now have to barter with this NPC, adding gold and items to the negotiation until the bar on the left fills entirely. With the bar filled, hit the ‘Gift’ button to finalize your marriage to your now-spouse.

Now that you’re married, having kids is very simple: you simply have to spend time with your spouse.

You can spend time with them either by including them in your party or physically visiting them in the settlement or castle they live in. After a seemingly random length of time, you’ll be notified that either you or your spouse (whoever is female) is pregnant.

You won’t have to do anything, in particular, to keep the pregnancy healthy – there are no activities to perform, and the pregnant character’s abilities aren’t affected.

After three seasons have passed, the baby will be born and will join your clan. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait many years for them to become a teenager before they can join your party.
