How To Make Bunk Beds in Minecraft (Step by Step)

Published:

Furnishing is probably the first thing that players do after finishing their house in Minecraft. But, coming up with unique ideas for furniture isn’t really that easy, and today we’ll be looking at designs for bunk beds and how you can make them in Minecraft.

Although Minecraft wants you to be innovative, not everyone feels creative at all times. And there’s no shame in looking up articles like this to help you get an idea of how to build stuff. Feel free to also draw inspiration from today’s bunk bed designs if none of them suit you.

How to Make Basic Bunk Beds

There are many variations of the bunk bed design in Minecraft, but we’ll only be focusing on the best ones. Plenty of videos and community posts have been made surrounding bunk beds, which is why we’re keeping it simple.

Before we go into the steps necessary to build this simple bunk bed, we’ll first show you a list of materials needed:

  • 2x Bed
  • 4x Trapdoor (Any Type)
  • 2x Dirt
  • 6x Sign

As you can see, these are pretty standard and easy-to-craft blocks. You’ll surely be able to build this bunk bed very early on in your playthrough. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s start diving into how you can build this bunk bed.

Step 1

Place two dirt blocks next to each other and place one of the beds on top of them.

Destroy the two dirt blocks once the bed is placed on top. Then place the second bed below the one on top. This will position the beds accordingly.

Step 2

When both beds are in position, take the trapdoors and make your way to one side of the bunk beds. Crouch-place the trapdoors on the edge of both beds so that they latch onto the beds. Repeat this process on the other side as well.

Make sure to fold the trapdoors after you’ve attached them to the beds.

Step 3

Now that all of the trapdoors are folded onto the sides of the bunk beds, you can move on to the signs. Crouch-place four signs on the side that will be facing the wall, and then only two signs on the side that you’ll be “entering” the beds from.

Alternate Minecraft Bunk Bed Design

The basic bunk bed that we’ve mentioned above will work for any type of situation. But, it still may be a bit too simple for some people. That is why we’ve found a more complex and detailed bunk bed design for people that like the finer things in life.

This one will require you to get materials and blocks that are a bit harder to find/craft:

  • 1x Barrel
  • 2x Stripped Spruce Logs
  • 2x Spruce Slab
  • 4x Spruce Trapdoor
  • 2x Bed
  • 3x Ladder

The only real challenge in acquiring these materials would be to find a Taiga biome. That is if you didn’t spawn in one already.

Step 1

Place a barrel facing up, and then pile on two stripped spruce logs and one spruce slab on top of it. Then place your first bed with its head facing toward the barrel. This will be a foundation of sorts for your bunk bed.

Step 2

Take your last spruce slab and place it on the upper part of the first stripped spruce log. Then take a spruce trapdoor and crouch-place it against the spruce slab that you just placed.

Now you’ll be able to crouch-place the second bed on top of those two blocks.

Step 3

Moving on, place one spruce trapdoor at the end of the bed and then the remaining two on top of each other so that you can close them against the beds. This layer of trapdoors will act as the second bunk bed “pillar”.

Once again, make sure to fold the trapdoors in order to complete the look that we’re going for.

Step 4

Lastly, you’re going to have to place the last three ladders on the barrel and two stripped spruce logs that we mentioned in the beginning. This step is crucial, as you won’t be able to access the top bunk without it.

Don’t forget to make use of the barrel near the bottom bed. It’s great for storing personal items of value.

Now you know how to make basic and more advanced bunk beds in Minecraft. There are a lot more bunk bed ideas online, but these are some of the most popular ones. We decided not to include non-functional/decorative bunk bed designs, as those won’t really serve people who are looking for functional ones that you can sleep in.

Minecraft has much more to offer than just building. There’s a world full of mobs, caves, and adventures to experience. That is why you’ll need to know what the most powerful weapon in Minecraft is.
