How to Make Rope in The Forest

Published:

There are a lot of materials that you can find and craft in The Forest. Some are practically useless, but most of them serve as an essential part of a crafting recipe. Rope in particular is needed for a lot of recipes, which is why in today’s guide we’ll show you how to make rope in The Forest.

Not only is it used for crafting items, but it’s also needed for many of the buildings that are going to protect you from the unforgiving populace of the peninsula. Most players just decide to find rope at points of interest, but not many people know that you can actually craft rope.

So, we all know that you can find rope all over the world, but not everyone wants to go on exclusive expeditions for the rope when building a base. That’s why it’s important to know how you can make rope by yourself.

In order to make a rope, you’ll need another material that you can also find all over the peninsula. The material in question is Cloth, and the peninsula has an abundance of cloth at every corner. You’ll need to combine 7 pieces of Cloth in order to craft 1 rope. You can only hold up to 4 ropes at once.

Gathering Cloth

Cloth can be found all over the map, but it’s most commonly looted from suitcases and cannibal villages. Your best bet for a lot of early-game cloth would be to loot the suitcases outside of the starting plane.

Once you scour through the suitcases at spawn, looting cannibal shacks and destroying effigies in their villages will also give you a nice amount of cloth. There are also designated cloth crates that you can find deep in Caves 5 & 7.

Cloth crates contain 4 pieces of cloth each, and their design takes inspiration from the real-world company Louis Vitton. They also spawn in a cluster, so it’s really hard to miss them.

Where to Find Rope in The Forest

If you don’t want to spend all of your cloth crafting ropes, then you can simply try searching for some. There are a lot of locations around the peninsula that you try exploring to find ropes.

The most notable locations to find rope would be the Yacht, Main Cannibal Village, and on a small boat near a Lakeside Cannibal Village. All three of these locations will give you about 3 ropes each, equaling out to about 9 ropes.

Now, there are many other locations at which you can find Rope, but those only contain about 1 or 2 pieces. Keep an eye out for Rope in all villages – there will nearly always be 2 ropes hanging from the ceiling of a hut in every village.

Notable Rope Recipes

As we previously mentioned, there are a lot of very important items that can only be crafted with rope. Moving on, we’ll cover all of the most notable crafting recipes that require a rope. You’d be surprised at the number of essential recipes that can’t be made without it:

  • Crafted Bow – 1 Stick + 1 Cloth + 1 Rope
  • Crafted Axe – 1 Stick + 1 Rock + 1 Rope
  • Waterskin – 2 Deer Skin + 1 Rope
  • Warmsuit – 1 Racoon Skin + 4 Boar Skin + 6 Deer Skin + 1 Rabbit Fur + 2 Cloth + 2 Rope

We think you get the memo. The list goes on and on, and it only scratches the surface of what you can craft with rope. Crafted Bows, Axes, and a Stick Bag will be your first priority when you spawn in.

Now that we’ve covered the crafting recipes that require rope, let’s take a quick dive into the most notable building blueprints that require rope:

  • Tree House – 35 Log + 1 Rope
  • Tree Platform – 14 Log + 1 Rope
  • Climbing Rope – 1 Rope
  • Free-standing Zipline – 10 Log + Number of Rope depending on the length of the Zipline
  • Tree Zipline – 2 Stick + Number of Rope depending on the length of the Zipline
  • Noose Trap – 2 Stick + 1 Rope + 5 Log
  • Catapult – 15 Stick + 1 Rope + 5 Log
  • Bed – 17 Stick + 1 Rope + 4 Rabbit Fur
  • Glider – 6 Bone + 8 Rabbit Fur + 8 Rope + 2 Arm + 1 Head + 32 Stick
  • House Boat – 4 Stick + 4 Rope + 40 Log
  • Small Raft – 4 Stick + 4 Rope + 7 Log

The rope is mainly used in buildings and gadgets that let you climb or hang something. Ziplines will consume by far most of your rope, especially if you plan to cover long distances. The Glider on the other hand also eats up a lot of rope, and we’d recommend building this in the ending stages of your playthrough.

Can You Store Ropes in The Forest?

Sadly, there isn’t an official storage unit for ropes. However, there is one small trick you can use in order to store 1 more additional rope.

This trick can be done by placing a Ceiling Skull Lamp blueprint and then depositing 1 rope into it. Whenever you want the rope back, simply destroy the lamp and it will return your rope. If you want to store more, you can place multiple ceiling skull lamp blueprints and repeat the process.
