How to Get Bones in The Forest

Published:

Bones are an important resource in The Forest if you want to progress at a good speed. Luckily there are a few ways to get them and they are quite common. This guide will walk you through the best ways to get bones.

How to Get Bones in Peaceful Mode

Bones are mostly gathered through killing the cannibalistic tribe of mutants on the island. This makes it a bit more of a difficult task in peaceful mode as there are no cannibals around.

However, you can still find bones around the island by knocking down the pole effigies. These can be made up of sticks, bones, cloth, skulls, and a few other items so it is always good to harvest them anyway.

Another way to find bones is by looting caves and camps around the map. Their drop rate is random but it still can be quite useful as you will be gathering other resources at the same time.

How to Effectively Get Bones in The Forest

The best way to get bones in the forest is by burning cannibal’s bodies. This can be done by throwing a Molotov at their corpse, which is not recommended as it is best to save them for fights, or you can through their corpses in a campfire.

After a few seconds of burning, usually around 30, they should crumple into a few bones and a skull. You can also overcook their limbs on the fire. If you cut off their limbs to eat and place them on fire if they overcook they will just turn to bones.

You can also place Cannibal’s limbs on drying racks and after a while, those will also turn to bones.

What Are Bones Used For?

Bones don’t have many crafting recipes in The Forest, but those few are quite useful. These are the items you can craft with bones:

  • A bone fence (required amount depends on size)
  • A bone chair (31 bones)
  • A bone frame (one bone and one rabbit fur)
  • Bone chandelier (26 bones, eight skulls, and five cloth)
  • A glider (six bones, eight rabbit fur, eight rope, two arms, one head, and 32 sticks)
  • An Upgraded spear (three bones, one weak spear, and two cloth)
  • Bone armor (six bones and three cloth)
  • Bone arrows (five bones, five feathers, and one stick)

The main use for boines is the combat recipes including the Upgraded Spear, Bone Armor, and Bone Arrows. Those items are much stronger compared to the wooden versions.

If you looted a lot of bones you might want to make a bone basket to make your life a bit easier. A bone basket is a storage building that will store bones and bones only. You can craft it with 21 sticks, and the recipe is in the Furniture section.

Once you finish that, you can arm yourself up and go hunting. We have got a list of locations with wild animals that will offer you valuable loot:
