Path of Exile is a deep game with a suitably massive skill tree. With over 1000 skills to choose from, it’s likely you’ll want to reset a skill or two eventually. Unfortunately, resetting your skill tree isn’t quite as simple as you may hope, as Path of Exile has no way to completely respec your character.
You’re not completely powerless, though, so we’ll be covering the best way to turn back the clock on some of your character-building decisions.
How To Reset Skills
There is no way to completely reset your skill tree in Path of Exile. You’ll have to resort to resetting individual skills if you want to change up your character. Unfortunately, this can lead to an arduous grind for resources as you collect the two items you’ll need to reset your skills.
Refund Points
The first way to reset skills is through using Refund Points. There’s a limited amount of Refund Points in Path of Exile, with only 20 available for each character.
To get all 20 points, you’ll have to complete various optional quests throughout the campaign. Each of the first 10 Acts contains a quest that will grant you two Refund Points upon completion.
The quests that grant Refund Points are as follows:
- Act 1: A Dirty Job
- Act 2: Through Sacred Ground
- Act 3: Victario’s Secrets
- Act 4: An Indomitable Spirit
- Act 5: Kitava’s Torment
- Act 6: Fallen from Grace
- Act 7: Kishara’s Star
- Act 8: Love is Dead
- Act 9: Fastis Fortuna
- Act 10: No Love for Old Ghosts

Orbs of Regret
If you’ve used up your Refund Points and still have more skills you want to reset, you’ll have to use an Orb of Regret, a consumable item that will grant you an additional Refund Point. It’s a painful way to reset your skill tree in Path of Exile but it’s your only alternative.
The best way to collect Orbs of Regret is by buying them from Yeena, a vendor in the Bridge Encampment. To buy an Orb of Regret from Yeena, you’ll need to trade two Orbs of Scouring with her. Unfortunately, Orbs of Scouring are also very rare.
The fastest way to get Orbs of Scouring is by finding Orbs of Chance and trading them with Yeena. You can find Orbs of Chance by trading in 4 copies of ‘The Fool’, a Divination card.
Once you have Orbs of Chance, trade them for some Orbs of Scouring, then trade the Orbs of Scouring for Orbs of Regret. You can then use the Orbs of Regret to reset some more skills.
