You’ll need to upgrade your arsenal of weapons to take on Grounded’s toughest foes. Upgrading weapons increase their damage and durability, helping you to survive for longer in Grounded’s dangerous world. We’ll cover exactly how to get the most out of your weapons down below.
Getting a Smithing Station
Before you can upgrade your weapons, you’ll first need to build a smithing station. You can buy the recipe for a smithing station from BURG.L, the friendly robot in Oak Lab.
BURG.L will sell the smithing station recipe for 2500 Raw Science. The fastest way to gain Raw Science is by completing quests for BURG.L, though you can also earn it by finding purple orbs around the world.
Once you’ve bought the smithing station recipe, you’ll have to build the station yourself. The materials you’ll need are:
- 1 Tough Nugget
- 1 Fashion Nugget
- 4 Crude Rope
- 2 Sap
Both Nuggets needed for the build are easily obtainable, found commonly in caves. You can make Crude Rope from Plant Fiber, and can find Sap all over Oak Hill.
Upgrading Weapons
Once you’ve built the smithing station, you can interact with it to open the upgrade menu. In this menu, you can choose any weapon in your inventory to upgrade.
You can upgrade a weapon a total of nine times, with each upgrade increasing its damage and durability. The materials you’ll need to upgrade weapons are:
- Levels 1-5: Tough Nuggets
- Levels 6-7: Mighty Globs
- Levels 8-9: Mighty Jewels
Finding Upgrade Materials
The first material you’ll need to upgrade your weapons is Tough Nuggets. You can easily find these by harvesting them from caves. You’ll need 45 in total to upgrade a weapon to level 5.
To upgrade a weapon from level 5 to level 7, you’ll need to create 15 Mighty Globs. You can do this by mining Cool Tough Nuggets from stones in the sandbox, then melting them in an oven.
To upgrade a weapon to its maximum level of nine, you’ll need 15 Mighty Jewels. These are a very rare resource, made in an oven by combining Rad Tough Nuggets and Twinkling Shells.
Rad Tough Nuggets can only be found through mining Rad Stones of Toughness throughout the world. Twinkling Shells are easier to find, being dropped from Scarabs.
