League of Legends Hecarim Guide – Runes & Summoner Spells
Hecarim runs two different sets of runes. Both are usable and it really depends on your playstyle.
The first one is running Conqueror. The rune works really well if you’re able to deal consistent damage with Hecarim, as well as sticking to the opponents to keep stacking it.
Triumph, Legend:Tenacity are the better runes out of the ones available so pick those. Coup de Grace adds even more damage & the other runes don’t really suit with Hecarim.

As for Secondary Tree, Sorcery is a must. With the introduction of Nimbus Cloak, Hecarim got an immense indirect buff. The MS he gets is extremely effective and is probably the strongest non-keystone rune in the whole game. You can either go for Celerity or Waterwalking depending on if you think you will fight a lot in the river.
The second set of runes involves Predator. This is self-explanatory. Predator gives a bonus of MS when casted, dealing extra damage on the next ability hit. Pair it with Hecarim’s E, and you will be able to gank anyone from any angle.
While it gives a little more burst and presence in the early game, it falls off quite a lot later into the game. So go for Predator if your goal is to help your allies & snowball them instead.

While most junglers run Flash + Smite, Hecarim is an exception. Due to his passive Warpath, which converts a percentage of his bonus MS into extra Attack Damage, Hecarim is much stronger with Ghost. The recent changes to the Summoner Spell made the champion even stronger as its duration is extended upon takedown.
League of Legends Hecarim Guide – Build & Skill Order
With the new changes to the items in this preseason, Hecarim’s buildpath has become more varied. Nevertheless, Trinity Force is still usually a go-to for him. It gives everything he wants & the attack speed is very valuable as well for the sustained damage. An alternative can be Divine’s Sunderer if you are against very bulky champions with tons of health.
People have also tried other variants, especially Stridebreaker. While it’s effective, I still prefer Trinity Force since it grants overall more damage the longer a fight lasts.

Always rush boots on Hecarim. It’s the most effective buy: do it before even starting buying items. As usual, go for Mercury’s Treads or Plated Steelcaps depending on what type of resistances you need. Boots of Swiftness are strong if enemies don’t have much crowd control.
After buying the Mythic Item, getting a little more damage is usually a good option. Black Cleaver & Sterak’s Gage provide that alongside some health, boosting your tankiness a little already.
Later into the game, focus on buying all the resistances you need. Force of Nature & Spirit Visage are both really good. Decide one or the other based on if you need more healing or more magic resistance & MS during teamfights.
With all the healing in the game right now, buying Bramble Vest is always a good idea. Guardian’s Angel or Death’s Dance are great options in case you want to go heavy AD, otherwise finish off with either Thornmail or Gargoyle Stoneplate.

Hecarim’s max order is Q, E and W last. Max R whenever you can. The order is pretty much constant in every game, you’ll hardly see any changes, even with E & W.
During the early game…
One of Hecarim’s strength is that he can start a game leashless ( without laners helping you ). This gives you an advantage since enemies won’t know on which part of the map you started. However, when you do this, in 95% of the cases you will start from raptors, as they give you the most healing with the Jungle item’s DoT.
Focus on rushing to level 6 as soon as possible. Try to gank & kill the scuttle crabs in order to accelerate it. When you get the ultimate, any enemy you’ll gank will mostly burn a Flash or die. Take at least an early Dragon if possible. Cloud Dragons are very strong on Hecarim so definetely take them when spawned.
And in Teamfights
During a teamfight, you can have two different roles depending on which one your team needs the most. You can be either one of the main engages tools to force a fight. By casting the ultimate, you will create havoc in the fight, fearing the enemies. Remember to ult behind the carries when engaging on them, as the fear will move them towards your allies.
The other role instead is being a peeler: using E and R to defend your carries from being assassined or engaged on. The tricky thing is to use your spells wisely and at the right timing. Messing up might be crucial to a teamfight win.
Takeaways
Hecarim has become more & more famous towards the end of the year when it was also picked by pro players at Worlds 2020. His snowballing potential is insanely high & he can seriously become a 1v9 champion in our games. While he has been nerfed slightly in the last few patches, he’s still definitely a strong & viable pick!
So what are you waiting for? Head to Summoner’s Rift & destroy everyone with Hecarim, the Shadow of War!
