The movie is set to feature a new character called Cole Young (Lewis Tan) a washed-up MMA fighter who finds himself being pursued Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung (Chin Han) and his best warrior Sub Zero. Fearing for his own safety as well that of his family Cole goes looking for Sonya Blade on the advice of a Special Forces Major known as Jax who bears the same dragon marking as Cole.

He ends up at the temple of Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) an Elder God and protector of Earthrealm. Once there he trains alongside other warriors like Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kano who all bear a similar mark in an attempt to prepare for against the oncoming threat from Outworld.

Simon McQuoid will be making his film directorial debut with this project and is being produced by James Wan who directed Aquaman.

With an R rating and promise of fatalities along with blood and gore hopefully, the final result will be more fondly remembered than the previous cinematic outing. If all goes well it may you usurp the first film in the franchise as one of the best video game movies ever.

The film is set to release in cinemas on April 16th, 2021 along with a release on HBO Max on the same day.
