This Skyrim Mod Allows You to Take on the Role of a Pirate

Given that Skyrim has been out for more than ten years at this point, with Bethesda re-releasing it for each generation, it’s fair to say that many fans are ready for The Elder Scrolls 6. However, we don’t know when that will ever rear its head, so we’re still playing the latter. Luckily, there are a ton of mods that keep things interesting, and more coming out of the woodwork all the time, some of which really push the boat out. Literally.

Take “Wanderer’s Heart” as an example. Created by user JamesDogg, this Skyrim add-on lets you act out your pirate-based fantasies by giving you access to the vast oceans. As well as being able to purchase your own ship in which you can set sail, there’s also the option to hire a crew of seafarers.

A video on the Nexus Mods page also shows what happens when you approach another vessel out in the sea. Part of being a pirate means having to take on rival gangs, and it seems possible to board an enemy ship and begin laying waste to another captain and their crew.

The only real caveat to “Wanderer’s Heart” is you’ll need to install some additional add-ons as well, such as “Dynamic Animation Replacer” and “Nemesis,” which is a behavioural mod. That aside, JamesDogg’s project seems more than worth it.

It also goes to show just how much untapped potential there is in Skyrim. As a decade-long game, it seems as though most things that can be seen or done in the vanilla game have already come to pass, even given the sheer scope of it. It’s the modding community that is helping to keep it alive and well, and there are so many ways to expand what is already a pretty lengthy RPG as it is.

Of course, that’s not to say that everyone isn’t looking forward to the next Elder Scrolls entry. As it stands, very little is known about when it will arrive, or even if it’s in development, but hopefully there will be some news from Bethesda soon. In the meantime, the studio is busy working on, and promoting, its sci-fi game Starfield, which is also the company’s first new IP in decades.
