Stardew Valley has been a popular simulation role-playing game since its creation by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone back in 2016. To this day, people are still logging in every day to get their fill of the farming lifestyle in Pelican Town.

Stardew Valley is full of multiple mini-games with fishing being one of the more popular side games. Players can fish for a large selection of fish from Eels to Catfish. In this guide, we’re going to focus on the Red Snapper in Stardew Valley and how to get your hands on the common fish.

How to catch a Red Snapper in Stardew Valley

Red Snappers are one of the easier fish to catch within Stardew Valley. However, there are still certain criteria players must meet to catch the fish.

Firstly, the Red Snapper is only available in the ocean and the Beach Farm if you chose that as your farm plot. The Red Snapper like the wet weather and will only be available to catch if it is rainy, during the hours of 6 AM and 7 PM. The Red Snapper doesn’t seem to like late-night fishing.

The Red Snapper is picky on the season’s it is available too. You can catch the fish during the seasons of Summer and Fall.

If you currently match all the criteria to catch a Red Snapper but the rain keeps missing your Pelican Town, then making a Rain Totem may be the next best route for you.

How to Make a Rain Totem?

Firstly, you have to be at Foraging Level 9 to make the Rain Totem.

You’ll need to craft it. The items needed are:

  • 1 x Hardwood
  • 1 x Truffle Oil
  • 5 x Pine Tar

Once the Rain Totem has been created, place it on your farm, click it to activate and then the rain will fall on your next in-game day.

If you’re not at Foraging Level 9 yet, Rain Totems can occasionally be found in treasure rooms in Skull Cavern.

Red Snappers can sometimes be available to catch in the Winter if a Rain Totem is used.

How else can I catch a Red Snapper?

Still struggling to get hold of the Red Snapper? There are a few other ways of obtaining one. Use Magic Bait. Magic Bait allows you to catch fish regardless of the season, time or weather.

Check the Garbage Cans dotted around Stardew Valley. They may occasionally have Red Snapper and other fishes. The Traveling Cart will also sporadically sell Red Snapper, but the price varies from 150 – 1000g.

Is Red Snapper needed for anything in Stardew Valley?

One Red Snapper may be requested through the “Help Wanted” board situated outside Pierre’s General Store. You’ll be rewarded with 150g and 150 Friendship points from whoever requested the fish.

Demetrius and Willy may also request between 1 – 4 Red Snappers on the “Help Wanted” board. They’ll reward 50g for each fish and let you keep them.

Red Snappers are used to complete the Ocean Fish Bundle for the Fish Tank at the Community Center. A small Glow Ring will be rewarded for completing the bundle.

The fish can be used on the spool of the Sewing Machine at 2 Willow Lane to create the Sailor Shirt. It can also be used to create red dye.

Red Snapper can be used in the following food recipes:

  • Maki Roll
  • Quality Fertilizer
  • Sashimi

Stardew Valley is available to play on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices.
