TL destroys G2 in the last match of the 1st round robin in convincing fashion, boosting them going into their second round. An extremely well-executed game, giving no chance to G2. After winning the two previous games, the LEC team didn’t deliver, as doubts arise on their consistency…
TL vs G2 – Draft – Clash of Different Ideas…
In champ select, G2 had a clear goal in mind: target Impact’s champion pool as they banned out all his best options. TL, on the other hand, answered by disabling some comfort picks for the G2 roster, even Mikyx’s Tahm Kench, after the performance he had against MCX.
With both teams trading the higher priority picks, the one thing worth noting coming out of the draft was Caps’ Jayce. Outside of the LPL, the hextech-hammer wielder wasn’t seen a lot. This mid lane pick would allow G2 to get a very strong early game, transitioning into a mid-game where they would dominate.
Team Liquid, instead, drafted a more traditional double carry team comp, as they looked to scale up & play around Jensen’s Orianna. Things, however, didn’t play out as expected…
TL vs G2 – Game – What a dominant game
Not only did G2 not get an early lead to snowball, but they even gave one to NA’s 3rd seed. TL picked up first blood following a late invade & questionable macro decisions from the enemies allowed them to get a lot of gold from turret plates & drakes. G2 worked around the Ashe + Alistar combo to pick up some kills, giving them some confidence as they’ve always managed to come back from disastrous situations…
This time, though, the miracle didn’t happen. TL always had an answer to all G2’s plans & engages, winning teamfight after teamfight. The gap slowly extended to an unrecoverable point: Infernal Soul & Baron picked up by Jensen & his team was the final blow that ended the game.
A very strong performance by TL mixes the whole group up again. TL, after going 0-2, will have some faith again in themselves as they need to at least win 2 games in order to have a chance of coming out of Group A. In the meanwhile, G2 is becoming harder & harder to read & analyze: it’s an extremely strange team to understand as they make easy things hard & vice versa.
This marks also the end of the 1st round robin for these two teams. Who will advance to the next stage? Will TL finally surprise us again? And will G2 recover from this loss?
