the Sims 4 Haunted House

Whether or not you created the scariest haunted house possible in The Sims 4, here are some tips to survive 7 nights… or even your Sim whole lifespan.

Creating the Haunted House

Of course, you can simply change your house lot type to Haunted House Residential. But, if you want to create the scariest house of them all, you can use your imagination to build a new house, use some house in the gallery or one of the dark-looking mansions already built in the game.

Maybe, if you have the Vampires Game Pack, you will like to live in the mist-covered land of Forgotten Hollow. With its dead trees, longer nights, tombstones and neighbours that want to drink your blood, Forgotten Hollow it’s the creepiest place to begin your phantasmagoric adventure.

The visual of living in Forgotten Hollow already brings a spooky feeling, but what makes the gameplay more difficult are the lot traits. Since one of the funnier things to do in The Sims is making your Sim’s life harder, you can choose 3 traits to your lot. If you look into traits from past packs, you will find some very interesting, like:

  • Cursed (City Living): Lots of things seem to go wrong here.
  • Gremlins (City Living): Stuff breaks here a lot. It’s like there are tiny goblins that come out at night and smash things…. But that’s ridiculous, right?
  • Spooky (City Living): For some inexplicable reason this lot attracts wandering Ghosts!
  • Creepy Crawlies (Jungle Adventure): It seems that some creepy pests have taken up residence here. Be prepared, when they hit you’ll never see them coming!
  • Vampire Nexus (Vampires): A dark void envelopes this lot in the upside down. Vampires are more likely to visit the area.

Living in the Haunted House

You arrive at your new house, and you are welcome by screams that seem to come from it. Your Sim will get Scared or even Terrified with the strange occurrences like lights turning off and paintings changing. But here are some tips:

  • Console each other: If you don’t live alone, a good tip is making one Sim console the other. Otherwise, doing things will be quite hard since the Sims are freaking out.
  • Pay Attention: Suddenly a cursed object can appear… or maybe a fire can start somewhere. You have to be ready to get rid of the object or problem. Most problems are not as dangerous as a fire though.
  • Unlock the Brave Reward Trait: For each night in the Haunted House, you gather points for the Reward Store. With 8.000 points, nothing cheap really, you unlocking the Brave trait and be less scared with your surroundings. The Brave trait is also a must for the Paranormal Investigator Career.
  • Level up the Medium skill: Using the Séance Table, improve your Medium skill and try to cleanse the house of evil entities and to verify how angry they are with you.
  • Buy/Make Sacred Candles: Although the Sacred Candles doesn’t look that sacred at all, you can buy a set of 3 for 500 points in the Reward Store. Sometimes, spectres leave wraith wax behind, you can use it to make Sacred Candles too. With them in your house, your Sim won’t get that scared anymore.
  • Talk with Guidry: On your second night at your haunted house, you’ll be visited by Guidry, the Ghost. He will happily answer your questions and give you some tips and even objects to deal with everything going on.

Dealing with Temperance

If the spiritual serenity of your house is at low as it can get, you’ll receive the not-so-friendly visit of Temperance, the Poltergeist. She is angry, can become aggressive when you interact with her and want to break all your house down.

If you have Medium Skill of at least level 3, you can quick summon Bonehilda while a second Sim distracts Temperance. Bonehilda can really help you get rid of Temperance but, if she is not an option, you can ask Guidry for help. If you say to him that something terrible appeared, he will give you a Bizarre Idol. Temperance is terribly scared of those idols.
