The Sims 4: How to Add a Sim to a Household

How to add a sim to a household in Sims 4

You may start off your Sims 4 journey with just the one Sim but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue throughout your Sims life without a family in your household.

Whether you create new members or invite them in, it’s up to you how your family grows.

Your household doesn’t have to be made up of family members. Players will make households filled with friends to live out their days in their own little friendship bubble.

Some will have a blossoming romance between two soulmates. The opportunities are endless to make your own unique households in the Sims 4 world.

There is an abundance of ways to add a new Sim to your household in Sims 4. Here is our guide on the best way to add a Sim to a household in Sims 4.

Create a Sim

Just like you must do for your original Sim in the beginning, you can create a brand-new Sim to join you and any existing Sims you may already have.

To do this, you need to create another Sim in an empty lot. Once you have created that Sim, you’ll need to merge the two households together with the “Manage Households” option in the map view.

From there, click on the household and Sim you wish to move and move them to join your existing Sim.

Some people prefer this way when looking for a partner for their Sim. It means they can make them as compatible as possible to write their own Sims love story together. There is more below on how falling in love can fill your household.

You also can make a brand-new household with more than one Sim and merge that with your existing one for a fuller household.

Make a family

Romance is a big thing within Sims 4. Creating your own love story is one of the more organic ways of expanding your household.

Make two Sims fall in love, whether that is a separate Sim you have created or one already in the game and ask them to move in with you.

From there, create a family of your own to have a full-of-life household filled with multiple different generations.

Adding an existing Sim

Your Sim can invite another existing Sim in the Sims 4 world to join their household. Your Sim must have a relationship of a friend or higher to be able to ask them to move in.

Once you get to this point, interact with the Sim you wish to move in and click “Ask to Move In” under the friendly category.

If the Sim you have selected to move in has a baby, toddler, or child, they will move in too if there isn’t a teen or older in their old household.

Limits in households

Currently, only eight Sims can live in one household to be wary when selecting who you want to live with your Sim.

You can always make multiple households and have plenty of parties if there’s just too many Sims you are fond of and aren’t able to blend the households together.

If you have the expansion pack The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs, then pets will be included in that eight total. Having two Sims and six pets seems like a very nice balance to me.

What cheats are there?

Like many things in the Sims 4 world, if there’s something that you want done quickly then there’s a cheat for that.

To gain extra Sims in your household, there is more than one way to create scenarios to add additional Sims to your household.

First, to open the cheat system on PC or Mac, press CTRL + Shift + C all together, while in game. To access cheats on PS4 and Xbox One, press down all four triggers at the same time.

You can add extra friendship and romance between two Sims to speed up the process before asking them to move in with you.

The cheat to enhance friendship is modifyrelationship [first name of first sims] [last name of the first sim] [first name of second sim] [last name of second sim] [number] Friendship_main

To enhance romance between two sim is modifyrelationship [first name of first sims] [last name of the first sim] [first name of second sim] [last name of second sim] [number] Romance_main

If you want to add a Sim to your household quicky, the cheat is relationships.create_friends_for_sim. This will spawn a new Sim that you are friends with. You just have to simply ask them to move in.

Disclaimer: Some cheats may not work on Sims 4 for console.

So, there we have it. The choice is all yours on how you expand your household in The Sims 4. Have fun and create those fun, lively and happy lives for all your Sims.
