Since its release back in 2014, The Sims 4 had only allowed fans to gaze upon their Sims and landscape from a third-person perspective. However, in a patch update that came out in November 2018, fans were finally able to see how their Sims lives their lives through their eyes when a first-person camera was released.
If you leave your Sim to their own devices, the camera will follow their gaze and you’ll be able to see what the Sims get up to in a more personal way. The first-person view will even work on pets so if you want to live your life out as a dog then now is your time to shine in The Sims 4.
How to enter first-person in Sims 4?
On a PC, you simply have to press shift and tab together to go into first-person. Like third person, the mouse is then used to control the Sim and its actions. Use the left-click button to interact with the world around you.
Walls and doors have proven to be a little tricky in first-person view but using the right-click button allows the Sim to traverse between rooms with ease. The same action is used to exit first-person view.
On PS4 and Xbox One, it is the same action to enter first-person mode. Just push in the right thumbstick. To move the Sim about, use the right thumbstick. Selecting any items or options is the same as it is in third-person view.
With the issue getting to other rooms, direct the Sims gaze to the desired door/room and click the O button on PS4 and B button on Xbox One.
For some people, motion sickness can be a real killer when playing in first person and can make the experience unenjoyable. The Sims 4 has incorporated a Field of View which can help combat it.
On PC, scrolling the mouse wheel allows the player to increase the Field of View and using the right thumbstick helps adjust the view for both PS4 and Xbox One.
Some things just don’t look right in first person
Some players prefer the immersive look of a game by throwing themselves into their character’s shoes. It’s great being able to see the Sims world from their point of view, just don’t get the Sim world confused with the real world.
While it is great to be able to view the Sims’s world through the eyes of the Sims, some of the actions that your Sim can do, don’t look all that great through a first-person view. If you’re expecting to get an up-close and personal look at WooHoo, then you’ll be mistaken.
It comes across buggy, with the Sims partner with their eyes closed and then some lovely fluttering hearts. I guess WooHoo isn’t supposed to be viewed that way.
If it wasn’t Woohoo that players were rushing off to experience in the first-person view, then it was death. The downside to being in first person is that you won’t get to see the reaper, who has always been a big part of death within The Sims 4.
