Knowing how to craft is a vital skill for succeeding in Torchlight Infinite’s endgame. Through the use of a few rare resources, crafting can modify your gear with a wide range of powerful effects.

In this guide, we’ll run you through the crafting process in Torchlight Infinite, from material gathering to item modification.

Before you can get crafting, you first need to understand the materials that you’re going to be using, and how to find them.

The most important part of crafting is your base items, the pieces of gear that will be upgraded during crafting. You can view your equipment by opening up the character menu screen open. Your equipment will appear on the right-hand side. As well as these base items, you’ll need two other resources.

Embers

Embers are Torchlight Infinite’s most important crafting material. The effects and quality of what you craft will depend entirely on the type of Ember you use. There are 14 Embers in total, split across four different rarities. Lesser Embers are the most basic form of Ember and can be found easily by killing enemies.

The other three rarity tiers are Precious, Greater, and Special Embers. These are best obtained by collecting and exchanging certain Memory Shards. You can collect Memory Shards by completing endgame farming trips using Trait Cards.

Flame Fuel

You’ll also need a healthy supply of Flame Fuel to craft items.

There are four types of Flame Fuel, ranging from the common Flame Residue to the rare Flame Elementium. The types of Flame Fuel are as follows:

  • Flame Residue – used to buy Flame Dust from merchants
  • Flame Dust – used to craft gear with 0 or 1 affix
  • Flame Sand – used to craft gear with 2, 3, or 4 affixes
  • Flame Elementium – used to craft gear with 5 or 6 affixes

Every type of Flame Fuel drops from enemies upon death. The more you level up and progress through the game, the more you’ll find rare types of Fuel. You can also buy Flame Fuel from other players in the Trade House.

How to Craft in Torchlight Infinite

To get crafting, head over to the Arms Dealer NPC in any large town.

Interact with them and click on ‘Craft’ to enter the crafting menu. Select the item that you want to improve through crafting to get started. Keep in mind that you can’t craft with enchanted gear. If you choose an enchanted piece of equipment, you’ll be given the option to disenchant it to continue crafting.

Once you’ve chosen the armor, apparel, or weapon that you want to craft, you’ll have to choose an Ember from your inventory. Which Ember you pick will determine what prefixes and postfixes an item will get through crafting.

Pick the Ember that provides the effects that you’re after to enter a new screen that will confirm exactly what will happen to your chosen piece of gear.

If you’re happy with the outcome, hit ‘confirm’ to craft your new item. This will consume the chosen Ember, as well as some Flame Fuel. You can repeat this process as many times as you like, so long as you have the resources.
