Best Career Mode teams for Road To Glory Challenge

One of the best feelings in career mode is starting from the bottom leagues and making your way up to the best of the best. Playing a Road to Glory is an experience like no other, unique to the career mode of FIFA. Here are some of the best road to glory teams in the career mode of FIFA 23.

What is the Road To Glory Challenge in FIFA 23 Career Mode?

The road to glory challenge in the career mode of FIFA is one of the most fun ways to play career mode. As the name suggests, an RTG career mode is when you take a very weak team from a lower division and make your way up to the first division, win it and then challenge for European glory.

The rules of the Road to Glory may vary from player to player. Here are a few general ones that most players use:

  • Start from the lowest possible league from the country you picked
  • Make realistic transfers (Preferably set spending limits)
  • Play on the highest difficulty
  • Only simulate when in the lower leagues
  • The challenge is won when you win the Champions League

Once you finish the challenge, you’re going to find that you’ve grown quite attached to your players and the storylines that have developed over the course of the seasons. If that is the case, you can choose to continue the save as you normally would.

There are five countries in which you can try this challenge. Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and, of course, England. Each varies in terms of difficulty level, but the challenge remains the same in all of them.

Each country has a few legendary clubs that have fallen down the ranks that you can try to bring back to glory. Or, if you want to start fresh, they are packed with clubs with little to no history waiting for you to write it.

We are going to look at one club per country, from their lowest possible leagues.

Italy – Serie B – Parma

Parma is one of the most storied teams in Italian football history. A giant of the late 80s and early 90s, Parma has become somewhat of a yoyo club in recent years. With a promising squad featuring youngsters like Dennis Man or football legend Gianluigi Buffon.

They have a history of discovering talents like Cannavaro or Crespo, so you can re-create their dominant team by investing in young players and the youth academy. Will you be the manager to finally give them the coveted “Scudetto”?

With a strong core that can take you out of Serie B in the first season, Parma is a great team to start off if you’re new to RTGs.

Germany – 3. Liga – 1860 Munich

Recently, EA purchased the rights to use the 3rd tier of German football in their games. 1860 Munich is a team that has been living in the shadow of its neighbors ever since its inception.

Can you be the one to turn the tides in the city of Munich and in German football? 1860 Munich don’t have many storylines going on for them, so you can make up your own. Play like a giant in the making or be a youth-focused club.

Although they are in the 3rd division of German football, 1860 is not one of the better teams. Be advised, this R2G might be more difficult than you expect.

France – Ligue 2 – Niort

To break away from the traditional “fallen giant” formula, we have a little bit of an obscure suggestion for you from France. We all know PSG has been one of the most dominant forces in domestic football history since the new owners came around.

Why don’t you challenge yourself to take them down with one of the worst French clubs in FIFA 23? Niort FC is located in a very small commune, with the town hosting just over 50.000 people. With PSG’s stadium having 48.000 seats, you can create one of the most compelling storylines you’ve ever played in career mode.

But if you’re unsatisfied with your choices from France but still want to challenge Ligue 1, you can always create your own club!

Spain – La Liga 2 – Andorra

Spanish road to glory team - FC Andorra

In Spain, we have something unusual and a first in the history of FIFA. Owned by famous footballer Gerard Pique, Andorra represent Catalan football in FIFA. Although there is only one Andorran player in the entire game, the team represents an entire country.

Similar to teams like Swansea in English Football, it could be a really interesting challenge to represent an entire country in a different league.

The squad is quite weak and you have a really low starting budget, but this is what makes R2Gs fun to play.

England – EFL League Two – AFC Wimbledon

Our choice for the best road to glory team in FIFA 23 from England is AFC Wimbledon. A club with a rich history, recently dissolved and formed backed up by the fans, it represents what created football in the first place – the passion of the fans.

Although your squad is quite good for EFL2, once you get into EFL1 or The Championship, you’re going to see a massive difference between you and the other teams – so the challenge is still there.

In England, you can’t go wrong with any team, since they have the most developed and storied leagues in the game.
