So if you got tired of playing as a criminal and would like to switch sides and become a cop, read on. This article will show you all the necessary steps on how to be a cop in GTA 5 in every game mode—including Online, Story, and even using the mods!
How to Be a Cop in GTA 5 Online Mode
In the summer of ’22, Rockstar Games released a major update for Grand Theft Auto 5. One of the new features introduced was the ability to play as a police officer. But in order to become a cop in GTA 5, you’ll first need to commit a crime – specifically, stealing a police vehicle.
Now, there are several ways to accomplish this, and we’re going to suggest a few of our favorites:
- While in the game, open your phone and dial 911. This will send over a police patrol to your current location.
- Go to one of the Police Departments in Los Santos or Blaine County and simply steal the police vehicle from their parking lot.
- Cause a commotion and lure police officers so you can easily steal their vehicle once they leave it.
Once you have stolen a police car, you will be able to be a cop in GTA 5 Online Mode. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open the Rockstar Editor
- Navigate to the Director Mode, which will bring you to the casting trailer.
- Select the Actors option
- Finally, select Emergency Services and LSPD.
How to Be a Cop in GTA 5 Story Mode
Being a cop in GTA 5 Story Mode is quite limiting. Essentially, there are no available missions for Los Santos Police Department, though some players may find this roleplaying enjoyable. Nevertheless, to become a cop in GTA 5 Story Mode, make sure to follow these simple steps:
- PC Players: Press the M button on your keyboard, then type “JRTALENT”, or open your smartphone and dial 1-999-57-825368.
- Console players: Press the View button on your Xbox or Touchpad on your PlayStation console, then type in JRTALENT or dial 1-999-57-825368 on your smartphone.
It’s worth mentioning that using Directors Mode in GTA 5 Story Mode will disable any achievements or trophies. So keep this in mind, especially if you consider yourself an achievement hunter.
How to Be a Cop Using Mod
While playing as a cop in GTA 5 Story Mode can be tedious and unexciting, using the LSPDFR (Los Santos Police Department First Response) game mod can make things much more interesting by allowing you to be a real cop and do real police work.
This mod has everything from dealing with dangerous criminals to high-speed high chases. On top of that, as a cop, you’ll be in total control of how you wish to enforce the law. In fact, you can even be a crooked cop if you wish so. You can arrest innocent people or let real criminals pass.
LSPDFR features various customization settings you can adjust, which brings so much variety into the game. The only downside is that this mod is available exclusively on a PC (Steam or Epic Games version of the game).
In any case, here are the necessary steps on how to install it:
- Download the latest version of the LSPDFR.
- Once you download the zipped file, you can easily install this mod by simply extracting all the files into your Grand Theft Auto 5 folder. In case you get a prompt to overwrite some files, make sure to accept it. If you aren’t sure where your GTA 5 folder is located, you can find it manually by selecting the “Browse” option.
- Once you’ve extracted all the files into the GTA 5 folder, make sure to verify that all the required files are present. Your GTA 5 folder should have an LSPDFR folder, which contains:
- Folders: audio, chars, data, plugins
- Files: Responsle.dll (found inside the plugins folder), as well as RAGEPluginHook.exe (found in the LSPDFR default folder)
- Finally, launch the game using the RAGEPluginHook.exe file we previously mentioned. Do not launch the game using the Steam or Epic Games shortcut. Once you enter GTA 5, check out if the Police Station’s locations are marked on your map, and if so, it means that LSPDFR is successfully installed and running, so you can now be a cop in GTA 5 Story Mode.
