How to Make a Snowman in Minecraft? (Step-by-Step)

Published:

Sometimes a snowman is all you need to make your Minecraft world livelier (figuratively and literally). It can also bring some festive spirit if you are getting ready for the holidays or making a themed map.

There are two kinds of snowmen you can make in Minecraft: a snow golem made out of 2 blocks of snow and one pumpkin, or a decorative snowman with the help of your imagination, a few YouTube tutorials, and even command blocks.

How to Build a Snow Golem

A snow golem is a walking snowman that will attack hostile mobs when it sees them. Although it doesn’t deal any damage just knocks back the enemy. At the same time, a snow golem only has 4 health hearts. On the good side, snowman in Minecraft is very easy to build!

To build a snow golem you need:

  • x2 Snow Block
  • x1 Pumpkin (or Carved Pumpkin)

A snow block can be crafted from 4 snowballs that drop if you try to harvest snow with a shovel. You can also use a shovel with a silk touch enchantment to get blocks straight away. Pumpinks randomly spawn in the world and their spawn rate in snowy biomes is quite high.

To make a snowman in Minecraft put two blocks of snow on top of each other and then a pumpkin at the very top. The golem will come to life and start walking around. You can use shears on the golem to take the pumpkin off the snowman’s head. You can’t put it back on though.

As we mentioned, a snow golem is quite weak. You can build an army of them to aid you in a fight we’ll give you that but for the most part, a snow golem is just a lively addition to your home. It can be used as an infinite source of snow because wherever it goes, it will leave a snow trail behind.

How to Build a Decorative Snowman

If, however, you are looking for some Christmas spirit for your world (even though it might not be Christmas outside), there are a couple of simple snowman builds that you can try and replicate in your world.

These snowmen are bigger to the point that you can even fit a small house inside. But they will also be very detailed and pretty as you can take advantage of using many blocks available in the game.

There’s even a way to build a snowman using command blocks. This snowman is much smaller, about the size of the snow golem, except it’s not alive and looks much more festive. Command blocks can be a bit complicated to understand so follow the tutorials closely.
