How to Reload Cancel in Modern Warfare 2
As some players may have noticed, reload canceling appears to have disappeared in Modern Warfare 2. But in actuality, it’s just been made more difficult to pull off. Below are the steps you’ll need to follow to pull off the reload cancel in Modern Warfare 2.
- After firing your weapon and initiating a reload, quickly hit the button to swap to your alternate weapon (Y, Triangle, or Q).
- Then hit the weapon swap button again quickly to switch back to that same weapon. This will activate the reload cancel, and your weapon will be ready to fire again without executing the reload.
- You need to make sure you do this quickly, as soon as the animation for reloading begins. The timing window to pull this off has significantly shortened in Modern Warfare 2.
As you can see, you can still reload Cancel in Modern Warfare 2. However, it just requires some extra caution when doing so. The reason for that is Modern Warfare 2’s new direction into more realistic FPS mechanics that you’d find in other titles such as Escape From Tarkov.
Tips for Reload Canceling
A good rule of thumb that will allow you to pull this off every time is to be sure that you hit the weapon swap before the magazine is fully removed from your gun during the reload animation. Once the magazine leaves the gun, the reload cancel will not work.
One thing to note is that sprint reload cancels do not work anymore. Meaning, the only way to pull off the cancel is to do the weapon swap technique. Thankfully, all weapons in the game can still be reload-canceled by using the weapon swap method outlined above.
Of course, this still requires some practice to get right, since each weapon has a different reload animation and speed. So be sure to play around with your weapon of choice and find the optimal time to swap your weapon and perform the reload cancel.
