Hunger and thirst are among the many battles you will need to go through, aside from the zombies. Luckily for you, we have put together a list of some of the best and most efficient food sources in 7 Days to Die.

Going from building to building looting, you will find some consumables and farming items, try to save as many of these as possible. Be careful with your items as some are better to use in recipes rather than to eat as it is. Items to craft with and food items can also be bought from vendors.

While looting and hoping for the best is an alright strategy, you might find yourself struggling to find food after restoring your stats. Putting points into getting better loot or finding clothing items will help with this however it isn’t quite the best option. Starting a simple farm early on will really help in the long run.

When exploring, make sure to kill any animals you come across and pick up any eggs you find. Under the strength tree, there is a skill for Master Chef, this will help get better food.

Bacon and Eggs

The food item is amazing for the early game as it replenishes food and health along with giving a stamina bonus. Bacon and eggs are relatively easy to make as they require very little. They also have zero chance of making you sick, giving you one less thing to worry about.

However, you do need the skill Bachelor one, under the strength tree. This will allow you to cook this, and a few other items on a campfire. You will need a cooking pot attachment for the campfire to make bacon and eggs but they are not hard to find or craft.

Charred Meat

A campfire and the recipe are all that is needed to make charred meat, it requires no skills, making it one of the best start game food items in 7 Days to Die. Like every other food item on this list, charred meat, despite its looks, will not make you sick.

  • +10 Stamina
  • +10 Health

You can stack charred meat in 10’s. However, it is not the best option as putting a few points into the cooking skill, you can craft better versions of this.

Grilled Meat

With one point into the Master Chef Skill in the strength tree and grill attachment, You can craft grilled meat. The grill attachment can be found throughout the game, bought from a vendor, or can be crafted at a forge.

Although not overly different from charred meat, it does not have a negative effect on water, making it slightly better than charred meat.

Boiled Meat

Boiled meat can be crafted with the Bachelor one skill under the Master Chef tree as well. Instead of the grill attachment, the cooking pot is needed for this one. A cooking pot can also be crafted at a forge, but like the grill, it is very likely to find it in the world.

Meat Stew

Starting off we have the meat stew. Having a simple farm and a steady source for taking out animals, meat stew is an amazing mid-game item. To make meat stew you need the second rank of Master Chef, Grandma. A cooking pot is also required.

Vegetable Stew

Vegetable stew is one of the best food items in 7 Days to Die for mid-game as most of the crafting items for it can be grown, making it very sustainable and will make it one of your favorite recipes. It also requires a cooking pot and the Grandma skill.

Hobo Stew is a good and sustainable late-game food as you will have plenty of the required items from your adventures in the world. It requires a cooking pot attachment and level three of the Master Chef skill, “Short Order Cook”.

Gumbo Stew

Gumbo stew is the best food item in 7 Days to Die. It requires a cooking pot and level four of the Master Chef skill, “Army Cook”. If you are starting out a new game, refer to some of the earlier recipes and try making them as soon as possible to unlock more amazing recipes later on.
